New Grindhouse Broadcast @Afronerd Radio/BTalk100;SUN 6pm: Animation's Vocal Reckoning; No More Blackface; Elijah McClain killing; Lebron Media Platform

Let's just jump in the "blerdic" pool, shall we?  It's time for a new Grindhouse show, engineered under the auspices of Afronerd Radio and broadcast thanks to BTalk 100.  Join your consistent AFROnerdist hosts as they unravel the following issues:  more apparent fallout in the wake of George Floyd's death and protests-a number of white voice over actors have proclaimed that they will refrain from voicing characters of color (.i.e. The Cleveland Show/Family Guy, Big Mouth, The Simpsons and Central Park);  and then there's the delayed removal of episodes of varied programs that had problematic blackface depictions (in the 21st century!!!);  actor, Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool 1 & 2), playfully crashes a virtual X-men cast reunion;  thoughts about a now almost 7 month video of a young reportedly pregnant black woman getting tased by a Miami Gardens police officer;  and even more thoughts on another suspicious police misconduct case, but this one resulted in the death of Elijah McClain of Colorado; addressing some topics we missed per last MWIR show; President Trump retweeted a video of a Trump supporter exclaiming "white power!" and miraculously he later states that he didn't hear the remark (riiiiiight); journalist, Nikole Hannah-Jones writes a NY Times piece on the case for African-Americans reparations; and perhaps and extension of the aforementioned black animation voice redux, our thoughts concerning Confederate (or morally questionable white heroes)  statue removals and Woodrow Wilson's name being dumped from Princeton, etc;  superstar athlete, Lebron James successfully garners 100M investment toward building a media platform;  Dburt has been engrossed in new anime for the last couple of days..ie. Megalo Box and Gleipnir; iconic Marvel comic artist, Joe Sinnot passes at the age of 93 and what better way to avoid COVID-19 on a production set than having an A.I. actor;  Call in LIVE at 646-915-9620.

Afronerd Radio's The Mid Week in Review! 6.24.20-8pm ET-at BTalk100; Discussing-Bubba Wallace, Keaton as Bats Again! Foundation Trailer, Milestone Media & More

My, My, My, these days are just whizzing by....well just like Bob Frank (ok...that's an obscure reference-just look it up).  Listen to the latest edition of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review (MWIR) airing this Wednesday at 8pm eastern, thanks to the good people at BTalk 100.  The issues to be unraveled this time are:  just as stock racer, Bubba Wallace's NASCAR star appears to be rising, he finds out that the noose he discovered is not a result of a racist attack-at least according FBI investigators; in what might turn out to be evidence that Warner/DC is righting the course of their nerd cinematic voyage, the original Tim Burton-verse Batman, Michael Keaton could be putting on that '89 cowl again;  and speaking of the Batman film universe-legendary director, Joel Schumacher passes at the age of 80;  and in the aftermath of the Warren Ellis allegations, just what is the #ComicsPledge?;  like what Daryll "The Uncanny" always says-"I believe it when I see it"-iconic POC/blerdcentric comic company, may be even closer to returning especially after this special DC comics Juneteenth acknowledgement; okay, there's just a litany of Karens Gone Wild (incl. males) stories; thoughts about Apple TV's new Foundation trailer:

Oh and then there's still further evidence that DC only gets it right in animation....introducing the Superman: Man of Tomorrow trailer:

comedian/talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel may even have more in common with close friend, Howard Stern as he, too, is getting that blackface retro treatment; online retailing giant, Amazon gets slammed for serving chicken and waffles to their black employees in celebration of Juneteenth;  a part of Rhode Island's official name may be removed due to the state's slavery connotations and is this just one of many comeuppances for name changes and statute removals going forward? more black athletes are leaving Liberty University over allegations of racial insensitivity and lastly, a new Oregon bill might be the answer to Dburt's prayers-black people being able to sue because of false 911 calls (yippee!).  Call LIVE at 508-645-0100.

Our Father's Day Edition of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse @BTalk100-SUN 6pm ET-BLM's Disturbing Mission; AMC Returns; Aunt Jemima No More+

We're b(l)ack by popular demand, people!  Check out the latest installment of Afronerd Radio's The Grindhouse-Father's Day edition. Join your favorite AFROnerdist broadcasters this Sunday at 6pm eastern as they wax about the following topics:  we've spoken about the sudden ascendancy of the Black Lives Matter organization, but we dig a bit deeper per their own (disturbing) mission statement......we will explain;  the AMC theater chain may be on life support but they are fighting to maintain a functional business./....even if they are being lax about requiring patrons to wear masks so as not to upset those who may possess certain political bents; and just like #MeToo caused a cultural shift with re-evaluating once "acceptable" social mores, it appears that the current BLM/George Floyd protests are causing companies to change racially insensitive logos;  actor/comedian, D.L. Hughley test positive for COVID-19 after passing out during a Nashville stand up gig; now there appears to be another alt-right LGBTQ provocateur, Chadwick Moore (in the vein of the fallen from grace version, Milo Yiannopolous) primed to start his franchise business in racial trolling......check out his handiwork:

And then there's race from the opposite side of the political spectrum from white filmmaker, Dale Restegheni who appears to be willing to stir racial fear and animus from the other side of the pot with his upcoming film, Cracka;

Noted graphic novelist, Warren Ellis responds to sexual misconduct allegations;  the son of late boxing icon, Muhammad Ali believes that his father would not support BLM (is he channeling Terry Crews' Black Supremacy remarks?);  Dburt purchased the Mortal Kombat: Aftermath dlc as well as The One Punch Man VG; And lastly, our thoughts about President Trump's allegedly less than eventful Tulsa rally this weekend.  Call LIVE at 508-645-0100.

Afronerd Radio! WED @8pm ET-New Mid Week in Review (MWIR)-Topix:How Popular IS BLM?; Lynchings?; Black Hollywood;Candice Patton & More

Man....is time flying fast!  It's Wednesday already and therefore, it's time for you to set your clocks for the latest installment of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review, thanks to our new platform at BTalk 100.  The topics up for discussion this (mid) week are:  current polling data asserts that the new Black Lives Matter movement is more popular than POTUS (and truth be told, its more popular than many things) and this is not sitting well with FOX News pundit, Tucker Carlson; and in a rather mysterious manner, post the George Floyd protests/riots, there has been an uptick in hangings (suicide vs millennial lynchings?);  and in further in BLM related news, Black Hollywood is starting to open up with personal tales of racism, discrimination and apathy all while attempting to garner a foothold within the industry; and speaking of blacks in Tinseltown, Flash actress, Candice Patton advocates for black women on the CW as the network commits to blocking racist, misogynistic and homophobic remarks on social pages;  legendary actor/rapper, Will Smith may be doing a slave themed movie entitled, Emancipation (with a black director) after all, when he purportedly nixed the role that eventually went to Jamie Foxx in Django; shock jock and radio industry icon, Howard Stern answers critics regarding his now problematic past pertaining to race humor and blackface; Long Island, NY's famed Nassau Coliseum, home of the Islanders hockey team has indefinitely closed its doors pending its billionaire owner's ability to garner investors; singers Alicia Keys and John Legend face off against each other for a special Juneteenth edition of Instagram Verzuz; and speaking of Juneteenth, also referred to as Freedom Day, is it possible that it might be tracking toward becoming a national holidaya young black doctor may be getting his Congressional closeup as a Democrat in a largely Republican stronghold in Virginia; And lastly our thoughts about President Trump's proposed Tulsa "race speech" which has since been moved to the day after Juneteenth (whew).  Call in LIVE at 508-645-0100.

OH...and we hopefully, will address some issues we failed to get to during this past Monday's Grindhouse!

Next Grindhouse MON 8pm ET: Miles Morales' PS5 Debut; Ridley vs Tarantino; Black Anime; ATL Police Killing; Dave Chappelle & More

Greetings to our ever supportive listeners!  Check your clocks for another undoubtedly fiery episode of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse airing this Monday at 8pm eastern.  Our AFROnerdist broadcasters will be discussing the following issues:  a new trailer for a Miles Morales Playstation 5 video game just hit the cyberwebs and not only does it have VG fans excited but does this also foreshadow a live action movie debut in the future?

Noted graphic novelist/screenwriter, John Ridley seems to have renewed the debate over legendary filmmaker, Quentin Tarantino's liberal use of the n-word in his art; Ridley was also somewhat responsible for the removal of film classic, Gone With The Wind from the new HBO Max streaming platform; ComicBookResources.com highlighted Japan's First Black Owned Anime studio but does that mean fans might be able to see more Black centric projects going forward in the genre?; yet another unarmed Black male gets killed at the hands of the police-this time in an ATL Wendy's drive thru;  comedian Dave Chappelle drops an impromptu 27 minute rant/stand-up routine for Netflix and Youtube discussing his thoughts on Black Lives Matter, police killings and subsequent protests;

influential comic writer, Denny O'Neil (most notably co-created the black Green Lantern, John Stewart and other iconic characters and story arcs) passes at 81; the popular Killing Eve UK series starring Sandra Oh (Grey's Anatomy) is catching criticism for what appears to be the show's all white writing staff in spite of its aforementioned star being of Asian descent; thoughts about President Trump's alleged race speech tentatively taking place on Juneteenth and in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  And lastly, Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods premiered on Netflix this weekend.  Call in LIVE at 508-645-0100.

PS:  If there's time (after all, it is a three hour show)...so now we started from the bottom, now we're here?  ABC's The Bachelor is now black.....but...there's always receipts.

It's The Mid Week in Review! WED 8pm: Gaming & BLM?; Terry Crews On "Black Supremacy"; Defunding Police? No More Elongated Man?

Howdy, people.  Let's keep this simple and succinct.  Check out the latest edition of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review (MWIR) airing this Wednesday at 8pm eastern, courtesy of our new platform at BTalk100.   Join your AFROnerdist hosts as they wax about the following (mid) weekly topics:  Comics.Beat.com recently posted a piece describing the somewhat ambiguous allegiance the gaming industry has with the Black Lives Matter movement; popular actor/host, Terry Crews appears to have gotten into hot water with black twitter over his remarks concerning the notion of "Black Supremacy" in the aftermath of protests over the senseless police killing of George Floyd;

We try to address issues we left on the table per last Sunday's Grindhouse broadcast; what exactly does the call for defunding the police actually mean?  And what was the deal with Senator Kamala Harris needing to explain it to The View host, Meghan McCain?;  and in nerd cultural news, how did The Flash's Elongated Man actor,  Hartley Sawyer, lose his job on his day off? (Answer: "Racism for 100, Alex!"); and in a case of the (post COVID-19) times are a changin', recent reports assert that Hollywood is looking to use CGI to reenact love scenes for obvious reasons;  very intriguing....Blumhouse Productions is looking to reboot Dracula looking to recapture similar success from their recent Invisible Man film; Bonnie Pointer from the iconic sister group, The Pointer Sisters passes at the age of 69; The MarySue.com site highlights alleged growing discontent with the CW network's diversity problems with much of its fantasy/sci-fi programming;  apparently, Japanese can't get Black anime right when it comes to the BLM discussion; And lastly, after all the mayhem stemming from the George Floyd police killing-is Rev. Al Sharpton's  request (during Floyd's televised funeral) that Colin Kaepernick should be rehired to play football since history has proven his activism to be on the right side of history? Call LIVE at 508-645-0100.

Oh and an alleged fan tweeted rocker, Tom Morello that he didn't care for his legendary band, Rage Against The Machine (I guess the band name was lost on him) becoming so political....I tell ya...or questioning Morello's political knowledge

Sunday's Grindhouse Airs At 6pm @BTalk100-Topix-Hercules in the MCU; Continued Protests Incl. Black Surfers; Kaepernick a Buccaneer?

Let's get to it!  Welcome to the latest episode of Afronerd Radio's The Grindhouse airing this Sunday at 6pm eastern at our new broadcasting home-BTalk 100.  Your AFROnerdist hosts are "b(l)ack by popular demand" and will be discussing the following issues:  still more "goings-on" relating to the global protests except now the Black Lives Matter movement is international and multi-racial; and is the current movement equally about police brutality and anti-blackness?;  And while we're on the topic of anti-blackness, some in the Indian acting community are simultaneously being applauded (for their stance on BLM) and critiqued for promoting skin bleaching products;  New Orleans Saints quarterback, Drew Brees formally apologizes for his perceived insensitivity toward African-Americans regarding his views about how kneeling equates to disrespecting the American flag; I guess this was always an obvious leap-if AI (artificial intelligence) will be driving cars in the near future, why not airplanes?  A piece from TheDrive.com highlights a planned test pitting a manned fighter jet against an autonomous drone; Fox News apologizes for using a graph to depict how stock performance spikes after the high profile killings of (or violent acts levied against) black men;  And in lighter blerd-pop culture news:  infamous (or is it problematic) director, Josh Trank opens up about his fight with studio execs when he pitched a black Sue Storm for his version of the Fantastic Four;   the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) may be eyeing their interpretation of the Greek god, Hercules for the silver screen treatment;  noted actor, John Boyega speaks out against police malfeasance (with concerns of career suicide) and gets public support from black directors insuring that he will be able to work after all;  And lastly, if time permits we'll try to round up the black NYC surfing community that recently paid homage to George Floyd; and where there's surfers there's also black equestrians in Houston, Texas honoring Mr. Floyd; will activist/athlete, Colin Kaepernick get hired in the wake of all this pro BLM news?  Call the show LIVE at 508-645-0100.

OH...and P.S.  Thoughts about TV mogul, Oprah Winfrey's OWN special, "Where Do We Go From Here?" Are there too many Progressive thought leaders in tow or should the black politically alternative voices develop there own platform?

There's more unrest and uncertainty but you can count on your AFROnerdist crew to come through with the fire, facts and fastidiousness during these very trying times.  So make sure to tune in to our infamous Mid Week in Review airing this Wednesday at 8pm eastern.  The topics du jour are:  the riots and protests on the national scene are still going on with President Trump promising to send in the military to calm this alleged storm and many folks are perceiving a dictatorial edge to his demeanor; are the rioters looking out for the black business owners, themselves or are they sincerely upset over police malfeasance?; And what are the citizens of these embroiled cities expecting as respite once the literal smoke clears?  I wonder how Colin Kaepernick feels about this-60 North Carolina police officers knelt before before demonstrators during a stand off relating to the tragic police killing of George Floyd; we'll also try to address some of the lighter issues we failed to address on the preceding Sunday's Grindhouse broadcast; thoughts about Blackout Tuesday and recent accusations that the popular TikToK social media platform censors black creatives; well they do say (some) kids can be cruel.....and it's evident when Middle School students reenact the Floyd murder for laughs (damn...);  umm...we are still in the midst of a pandemic, right?; and to lighten the load.....are the CW's Batwoman writers going to actually write out the "batwoman" character from the self titled show? ; well....HBO Max has officially christened their DC cinematic section as the DC Extended Universe....so do I cancel my DC Universe subscription now? GamesRadar and Newsarama merge for some reason....;  Marvel and DC exclaim support for the black community;  nerd virus alert.....an Ayer Cut-for Suicide Squad?  And lastly, what does all this corporate (vocal) support for Black Lives Matter mean? Call up LIVE at 508-645-0100.
