The Legendary Cicely Tyson Passes; Afterburner Comics' Robert Stewart Stops By; Dburt's Indoor Cycling Woes; Gamestop/AMC/Robinhood Tricks; More Wandavision; Black Tim Drake?-The Grindhouse Airs @8pm SUN

To our ever supportive Afronerd Radio followers, always remember when it comes to our media "steam engine's" stick-to-itiveness, the Caron Wheeler song, Keep on Movin' certainly applies!  Check out the latest installment of our Grindhouse broadcast-airing this Sunday at 6pm eastern.  The topics to be discussed are as follows:  WOW...more and more of our iconic heroes are leaving the planet.  Legendary actress, Cicely Tyson (Sounder, The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman) passes at the age of 96; graphic novelist/publisher, Robert Stewart of Afterburner Comics pays a visit to the machine to discuss his IP, independent comic publishing and "science fiction noir.";  Dburt, like many fitness enthusiasts, is racking his brain over which indoor fitness bike to get during these unrelenting COVID-19 times; just what is up with the extremes in the stock market?  Especially the meteoric stock price rising for AMC and GameStop. Is this a real war between Wall Street and Main Street

Our impression of the fourth episode of Marvel/Disney +'s Wandavision (the MCU is coming back strong!); HBO Max's upcoming Titans S3 (formerly streaming on the DC Universe platform) has purportedly cast actor, Jay Lycurgo as Tim Drake/Robin:

 And lastly, there appears to be a brewing controversy regarding filmmaker, Tyler Perry's COVID-19 pro-vax campaign (with an assist from BET)..specifically how it's aimed at the Black community through stereotyping:

2 Kings Pass: Hank Aaron & Larry King; The Root on Rival HBCU Swag; UK Black Time Travel Show Gets US Reboot; Netflix' White Tiger & Jurassic Animated S2 & More! WED, 8pm Mid Week in Review @BTalk 100

Getting to the matter at hand....it's the Mid Week in Review broadcast! Airing this Wednesday at 8pm and engineered by Afronerd Radio for the BTalk 100 platform.. Your "friendly neighborhood" AFROnerdists will be pontificating about the following issues: as the nation still grapples with the current pandemic crisis, iconic citizens are continuing to "leave the planet."  Our thoughts about the passings of legendary baseball player Henry Hank "Hammer" Aaron and iconic broadcaster, Larry King;  something that should be joyous unfortunately has turned another racial harassment story concerning the announcement that a Star Wars centric web series will be hosted by Krystina Arielle who is of African-American extraction;

And the Arielle controversy prompted a Twitter conversation which we will cover on our broadcast-Star Wars or Star Trek, which franchise appears to engender more racial divisiveness in the pre/post Trump era?; TheRoot.com highlighted an innocuous piece pondering whether it's appropriate to wear HBCU gear from a school (perhaps a rival) that you did not attend; thoughts about recent news that a popular Black British TV series, Timewasters is getting a US remix, courtesy of A Black Lady Sketch Show writer, Lauren Ashley;  Dburt got a chance to check out both the American-Bollywood film, White Tiger and S2 of Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous; just what is up with the meteoric stock rise for the fledgling video game retailer, Game Stop;  and as expected Wandavision: Strucker watches are now available for purchase...Dburt didn't need hex powers to predict that one did we ever speak on Captain America and Punisher logos being used by White supremacists/QAnon folk nowadays? Enter the mayor of Sequim, WA;  Lastly, thoughts about the forthcoming new blerd resource, The Access Guide to the Black Comic Book Community 2020-2021.

Oh and then there's a brewing racial erasure controversy involving the highly popular Netflix series, Lupin....it never stops, folks.

The Mid Week in Review-The Inauguration Episode Airs WED, 8pm @BTalk 100; BLM's Twerk on DC? (Really); Whitewashing of Black Wall St; Wandavision; Batwoman S1; Y: The Last Man News; Boyega Fan w/Finn Swag & More!

Ok...this time, let's really make this a "quick to the point" posting! Listen to our special combo post MLK Day-Inauguration Day episode of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review airing this Wednesday at 8pm eastern at BTalk 100.  Your loyal AFROnerdists/hosts will be deciphering the following cryptological (mid) weekly phenomena: our fast take (with positive thoughts...please no terrorism) of the historical transfer of power.  Will Trump even make an appearance and again, will everything go without a hitch?  And in the wake of the Capitol Riots and forthcoming Inauguration proceedings, was it a "good look" for the Black Lives Matter organization to create a campaign entitled, Twerk on Washington

A Washington Post piece, The "whitewashing" of Black Wall Street, highlights the erasure of new Black business prospects in favor of White owned firms as we approach the centennial of the racially violent decimation of the famed black business district in 1921; per usual, Dburt will try to cover some issues forgotten from this past Sunday MLK Day Grindhouse....including our thoughts about Disney's Wandavision, the 9th annual Black Comic Festival in virtual Harlem, NYC and Netflix's dual black lead sci-fi film, Outside the Wire; the new Blackwoman....ahem, Batwoman CW series (S2) premiered to less than auspicious ratings; more news on the upcoming Y: The Last Man FX TV series; Lastly, Screenrant.com highlighted an Instagram posting by Star Wars actor, John Boyega of fan showing off his merchandise swag based on Boyega's Finn character-Dburt has some thoughts that are not too innocuous (hopefully Boyega gets a cut of the merchandise displaying his likeness and black swag matters!)

Dr. King's B-Day @TheGrindhouse, SUN 6pm: MLK's Legacy & the Capitol Riots; Godzilla Vs Kong @HBO Max; Capt. America Returns; Punisher & Cap's Imagery w/Rioters; Wandavision; Netflix' Outside the Wire; One Night in Miami

Welcome to the MLK edition of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse internet broadcast, airing this Sunday at 6pm eastern.  The topics to be placed on our metaphysical "grill" to be devoured are: thoughts about Dr. Martin Luther King as we celebrate his eponymous holiday and how the recent "sedition at the Capitol" reminds us the more things change.....ahem, you know the rest;

So we're off to the races with Warner Media's earlier theatrical movies in tandem with streaming announcement via Godzilla vs, Kong's release date on March 26th (in theaters and simulcast on HBO Max); that didn't take long.....Chris Evans announced that he will be reprising his role of Captain America in the MCU. In what film or films? We'll theorize....; a few stories that we failed to address during last week's Mid Week show including how Marvel's Captain America and Punisher characters have been co-opted by white extremists (seen on full display at the Capitol fiasco)

Our first impressions of episodes 1 and 2 of Marvel/Disney+'s highly anticipated streaming series, Wandavision; Dburt also has some thoughts about Netflix's co-black lead sci-fi thriller, Outside the Wire, starring Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Avengers franchise) and Damson Idris (Snowfall, Black Mirror); and then there's yet another laudable streaming project that's been hyped up for a few months-the Regina King directed One Night in Miami....we, too, give you our thoughts; Lastly, the Schomburg's 9th annual Black Comic Book Festival-virtual  edition launched this past week ending this Saturday.

Mid Week in Review Broadcast @BTalk 100-WED, 8pm: Soul Outperforms WW 1984?; More on Black Panther 2; Bitcoin & Black Cryptology ; Miles Morales (Also) Has Clone Issues; Batman: Soul of the Dragon

Time sure is moving like (Black) Wally West taking a jog to school.  Nevertheless, it's that time for the a new installment of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review (MWIR)-airing every Wednesday at 8pm eastern, thanks to the good folks at BTalk 100.  The topics set to be discussed are: surprisingly, Pixar's Soul starring Jamie Foxx despite the addition of simultaneous factors like streaming and COVID-19, outperformed Warner's Wonder Woman 1984 in China; Marvel Studios head honcho, Kevin Feige is giving more clues regarding what thematic direction the Black Panther sequel will take without its star actor, the late Chadwick Boseman; shocker! Dburt picks up on a forgotten topic pertaining to his recent interest and foray into cryptocurrencies as well as black American history's connection to cryptology;  oh and speaking of crypto...did you ever hear about the early investor worth 220M in bitcoin but he can't touch his fortune?; well it looks like Marvel can't help themselves-Miles Morales' version of Spider-Man will purportedly tackle his own spin of the Peter Parker "clone saga" storyline;  the 9th annual Black Comic Book Festival starts....TODAY.  And yes, its virtual. Does Netflix/Shondaland's Bridgerton do a disservice to British black history by fantasizing how race is depicted during Britain's Regency era?

Respected actor, Harry Lennix (The Blacklist, Man of Steel) recently revealed that he will be assuming Martian Manhunter character in the forthcoming Zack Snyder Justice League HBO Max film; Lastly,  noted comic editor/graphic novelist and friend of the Afronerd Radio show, Joseph Illidge, wrote an interesting piece for Medium.com entitled, Fear of a Black Batman and the Comeuppance for White Supremacy.

Michael Jai White is Lupin (Sorta); Insurrection @TheCapitol & Soho Karen Continued; Canceling Marvel's Punisher Post MAGA Coup? Quibi @Roku?; The GrindHouse Airs SUN, 6pm-@BTalk100

What's up, AFROnerdists!  Let's just get to it, shall we?  Welcome to another Grindhouse broadcast as engineered by the mighty Afronerd Radio "steam engine" and powered by the BTalk 100 platform. The show airs regularly on Sundays at 6pm eastern.  The topics up for discussion are: thoughts about Netflix' foray into French cinema via the new Omar Sy film, Lupin. The dubbed version also showcases the pretty recognizable voice of action star, Michael Jai White; further discourse and more fallout in the aftermath of the MAGA attack on our nation's Capitol; and speaking of post insurrection fallout, a campaign has started for Marvel to "cancel" their Frank Castle/Punisher vigilante character due to the IP's skull logo being coopted by a number of white supremacists/militia groups; more thoughts about the inevitable arrest of Miya Ponsetto aka "Soho Karen" and her contentious interview with Gayle King;

has the failing Quibi micro-streaming service been saved? And is the Roku channel responsible? Dburt does a quick take on simplifying finances (versus corporate hip hop's Birkin bag/gifting babies Rolex watches "logic"), exploring cryptocurrency as well as the black American legacy of cryptologists;  some folks are perturbed over the new Vogue cover of VP elect, Kamala Harris which downplays her regal status for a less becoming appearance:

Whelp...our favorite convention is returning this upcoming week-the Schomburg's Black Comic Book Festival-virtual edition; Lastly, we forgot (as usual) to discuss some matters left on the metaphorical kitchen floor per last Wednesday's Mid Week show...so let's address them!

1st Mid-Week in Review Show of the New Year! Airing @BTalk100, 8pm EST: Eric Jerome Dickey Passes; Shocker! Cardi B's Hypocrisy; Keaton's Batman; Where's Avery Brooks?; What Dr. Dre & Shabba Doo Tell Us About Black Men's Health

Greetings, folks! And again, welcome to the new year!  Listen to the latest episode of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review (the first of '21) this Wednesday at 8pm eastern on BTalk 100.  The topics to be "chopped up" are as follows: bestselling novelist, Eric Jerome Dickey (Sister, Sister, Finding Gideon, Storm) succumbs to cancer at the age of 59WAP rapper, Cardi B causes a stir with some fans by not allowing her daughter, Kulture to listen to her oftentimes sexually charged music: the question remains, is actor, Michael Keaton's version of Batman (circa '89) going to be the canonical DCEU Dark Knight or what?; many thought esteemed actor, Avery Brooks (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; A Man Called Hawk) simply retired from acting but according to his TV series DS9 "son," actor, Cirroc Lofton, it's a bit more complicated than that (at the 21 min mark below)....hence, the #WeWantAvery campaign is afoot:

Well...whether it's pandemic related (or not), we're seeing more around the clock death and health scares pertaining to Black males (celebrities, notwithstanding)-iconic hip hop producer, Dr. Dre appears to be recovering from a brain aneurysm and with the untimely death of choreographer, Adolfo "Shabba Doo" Quinones , what will it take for black men to be more proactive about their health and well being?  Dburt juxtaposes the triumphant story of budding 14-year-old Georgia restauranteur, Mason Wright against the observations of  Youtuber, Jenee Amore as noted by the rising Manospshere YouTube Channel, Mediocre Tutorials and Reviews:

There's a pretty interesting Wired piece highlighting the black/minority bias found in the venture capital industry;  And lastly, we never did speak on the firing of two black female executives by tech giant, Google....time willing.

Ok Now The 1st Grindhouse Show of the Year! Airing SUN 6pm via BTalk 100: MF Doom Passes; Ray Fisher vs DC; Is Space Force Trump's Sole "Good" Contribution?; New Book on Black Comic Artists; Cobra Kai S3

Let's start 2021 with a terse and "to the point" start, people!  Welcome to the first Afronerd Radio broadcast of 2021 streaming under the guise of the infamous Grindhouse brand this Sunday at 6pm eastern.  The topics for the brand new year are as follows:  regrettably the world experienced yet another untimely death with the passing of iconic underground rap artist and graphic novel enthusiast, Daniel Dumile aka MF Doom;

Cyborg actor, Ray Fisher seems to be tripling down on his critique against DC/Warner Media/Joss Whedon but this time he is speaking negatively toward DC Films President, Walter Hamada; thoughts about the one achievement that may be the lone bright spot of the Trump Administration's oftentimes cantankerous and inept perception-the creation of the U.S. Space Force;  a New York Times piece on a new book entitled, Invisible Men: The Trailblazing Black Artists of Comic Books-the book profiles 18 male Golden-Age comic era artists;  the highly anticipated third season of Cobra Kai premiered on Netflix this weekend and Dburt gives his spoiler-free impressions; and the "Soho Karen" story continues with the female aggressor's identity now being revealed;  the AtlantaBlackstar.com site lends focus to two black classically trained musicians performing in symphony orchestras as well as the question of diversity in the classical music genre; Marvel movies/streaming series slated for release in 2021;  and in a likeminded fashion, DC movies like Static Shock and Batgirl will be on the HBO Max streaming platform; lastly, the saga that is the Prince estate continues. The curation of the icon's music is one matter and his music's undervaluation is another.
