Tulsa Event Canceled; Friday Foster Returns; Amy Cooper is White (About Her Plight); Joker 2; Marvel in Black (Panther); Chadwick's Howard U Honor; "Old" Trailer-The Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

It's showtime, citizens! Welcome to a new episode of Afronerd Radio's The Grindhouse broadcast-airing every Sunday at 6 p. m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Listen to the latest musings from your mighty "steam engine" hosts as they shed light on the following topics:  what was supposed to be a commemorative event signifying the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Riots, was unfortunately canceled due to conflicting circumstances.  Was the event postponed due to a recommendation from the Department of Homeland Security or was it a conflict over monetary and reparative justice?;

And speaking of BWS, perhaps many of us need to pay close attention to actor, Hill Harper's  latest endeavor, The Black Wall Street digital wallet;  the iconic 70s newspaper comic strip, Friday Foster (later given the movie translation treatment, starring Dr. Pam Grier), will be reprinted by ABLAZE Publishing and available in a first-ever hardcover collected edition on June 24th;  Amy Cooper aka the "Central Park Karen" is apparently unrepentant about her racist encounter with Marvel Comics editor and birder, Christian Cooper, as she is suing her former employer for...wait for it....racial discrimination (it is to laugh);  it looks like director, Todd Phillips is looking to go back into his version of Joker's mythology with a sequel to the 2019 billion dollar box office smash; our thoughts about Ta-Nehisi Coates' Black Panther #25 finale as readers/fans await the baton pass to screenwriter, John Ridley's take:

Famed HBCU, Howard University renames its College of Fine Arts after T'Challa himself, actor, Chadwick Boseman; critically divisive filmmaker, M. Knight Shyamalan, is back at it again with a new trailer, Old;

Eternals Trailer; Disney is NOT Buying DC (Allegedly); Army of the Dead; CW Painkiller Canceled; Crypto Zeitgeist; Kwame Brown; Lena Waithe; Jurassic World S3 @ Netflix; 4400 Reboot (no Alphas?) Mid Week in Review Airs WED 8pm EST

Ok folks, let just dig in, shall we?  Check out a new episode of  Afronerd Radio's The Mid Week in Review internet show, broadcasting live every Wednesday at 8 p .m. eastern, courtesy of BTalk 100. Join your favored AFROnerdist hosts as they unravel this (mid) week's latest mysteries:  the long-awaited and highly-anticipated Marvel post-pandemic cinematic outing, The Eternals just released a somewhat subdued trailer on the cybernets and we'll give you our thoughts:

We were fortunate to have Dr. T Hasan Johnson stop by during this past Sunday's Grindhouse, so we never did get a chance to discuss a pretty big story concerning the WarnerMedia/Discovery merger.  And does this merger signal anything involving Disney (pursuant to what some sources are theorizing); oft-alienating JL filmmaker, Zack Snyder, appears to be continuing his streaming streak with his recent Netflix release of  Army of the Dead;

And in CW news, it appears that the Black Lightning Painkiller spinoff has been canceled;  Dburt gives his impressions of the current cryptocurrency financial rollercoaster and how this may all end up; hat tip to our resident cinephile, Sergio Mims for tweeting the Werewolves Within trailer to our attention :

If time constraints permit,  perhaps we can talk about the current Kwame Brown vs most of "woke" urban media and how he is winning or at the very least, reaffirming the Black "manosphere.":  He even has a differing opinion on the Breonna Taylor tragedy...hmm; so Captain Luthor of Superman & Lois is not who many thought he was.....let's discuss the reveal:

And lastly, we'll try to fit in the critique about Lena Waithe, Netflix' animated Jurassic World S3 and the CW's planned 4400 reboot.]

Educator/Black Masculinist, Dr. T. Hasan Johnson Drops By; Comedy Legend, Paul Mooney Passes; Into The Mother Lands Kickstarter; FF: Life Story #1 (Clues to MCU debut?); Crypto Rollercoaster; Milestone vs. Image: The Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

Greetings to our loyal supporters and avid listeners!  Welcome to another fiery, fact-finding installment of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse cyber broadcast, airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on the BTalk 100 platform.  Join your "friendly neighborhood" AFROnerdist hosts as they wax about the following topics:  noted academician, Dr. T. Hasan Johnson (Associate Professor of Africana Studies at California State University, Fresno) stops by to discuss his career, burgeoning social media presence, Black Male Studies program and hopefully, his forays into "blerd" culture (Black Panther!);  tragically, another Black icon has fallen-legendary comedian (and writer/collaborator of the late comic "god," Richard Pryor), Paul Mooney passes at 79;

As always, our mission to highlight new and interesting Black geek projects remains resolute....enter Into the Mother Lands, an Afrofuturism themed RPG that has garnered over 170K on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform; with anticipation growing for the cinematic reboot of the Fantastic Four, many fans are looking for clues as to how Marvel's "first family" will be introduced into the MCU.  Could the forthcoming release of the Fantastic Four: Life Story comic provide answers?; Dburt's thoughts on the recent highs and lows of cryptocurrency valuations and lastly, after checking out the latest trailer for Image's Home Sick Pilots graphic novel series, we continue to ponder how Milestone Media reemergence can level up against Image's multi-genre formatting.

The Underground Railroad; LaKeith Stanfield+Min. Farrakhan+Clubhouse=Controversy; Love, Death+Robots 2 & Castlevania; More on Marvel's Heroes Reborn; Masters of The Universe Reboot-1st Look; All-Rise Canceled & More-The Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm

Let's just get into it......just like walking a tight rope, without a net!  Welcome to a new episode of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse broadcast airing every Sunday at 6 p. m., courtesy of the BTalk 100 internet radio platform.  Join your "astonishing" AFROnerdists hosts as they decipher this week's set of topical phenomena: noted and rising filmmaker,  Barry Jenkins' alt-historical/fantasy series, The Underground Railroad premiered this weekend on Amazon; popular (and "quirky") actor, LaKeith Stanfield (Sorry to Bother You, Judas and the Black Messiah) found himself in a bit of a quagmire due to his hosting of a type of public colloquium (on the Clubhouse social media app) centered on the legacy of controversial NOI leader, Minister Louis Farrakhan;

Two stellar animation sequels/franchises debuted this week on Netflix: part 2 of Love, Death+Robots and the fourth and final season of Castlevania (or is this really the final season?);  Dburt just has more questions after reading a few issues of Marvel's latest crossover event arc, Heroes Reborn and what does it have to do with the DC line of IPs?; Dburt thought that he wouldn't have an interest in Kevin Smith's Masters of the Universe animated reboot but ....after checking out a few pics of the upcoming series, he might be changing his mind:

One of Dburt's favorite shows, All Rise on CBS (starring two Marvel Netflix alumni, Simone Missick and Wilson Bethel) just got canned BUT....does that free them up to go back to Marvel to reprise their roles at Disney+? and lastly, the latest news centering on Marvel's Secret Invasion (Disney+) and Indiana Jones 5.

Bitter Root Gets a Director; A Reckoning @The Golden Globes; Jupiter's Legacy @Netflix; SNL's "Black English" Sketch; Venom 2 Trailer; Megalo Box 2; Image's The Good Asian CB-Mid Week in Review Airs @8pm EST

Let's get into it...let's get involved, people! Check out and listen to the latest musings of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review broadcast airing every Wednesday at 8 p. m. eastern, thanks to the good folks at BTalk 100.  The topics to be discussed this (mid) week are: noted actor and rising director, Regina King (One Night in Miami, Watchmen), has been tapped to helm the highly anticipated David Walker penned comic to movie translation of Bitter Root; Controversy hits the vaunted Hollywood Foreign Press Association and The Golden Globes Awards with NBC announcing that they are opting out of broadcasting the show in 2022 due to lack of diversity complaints levied against the HFPA;  our impressions of the live-action CB to streaming translation of Jupiter's Legacy now showing at Netflix;

And then those criticisms that are coming in after the Elon Musk episode of Saturday Night Live...specifically, the Michael Che penned "Gen Z" sketch. Was it poking fun of AAVE (African-American Vernacular English) or White appropriation of alleged Black culture and dialect?

Our thoughts about the new Venom: Let There Be Carnage trailer that hit the internets this week:

What if society treated human beings akin to a natural resource in the same vein as iron, coal, and gas? Enter young (chess) master, Tanitoluwa Adewumi, who is striving to become the youngest grandmaster coming from the brink of homelessness

Just when Dburt thought he was out of anime, Megalo Box: Nomad (and a whole host of other anime titles) pulled him back in; lastly, the "house" of Image does it again-The Good Asian #1 released last week, gives a long overdue POC alternate spin on the detective noir genre.

Illustrator/Writer, Jeff Parker (James Bond, Ninjak, Future Quest) & Subsume Media Co-Creator, Dedren Snead Interviews; Elon Musk, Crypto & SNL; Chappelle's Podcast; Eve #1; Heroes Reborn-The Grindhouse Airs SUN, 6pm EST

Greetings, folks! Welcome to the latest installment of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse broadcast, airing every Sunday at 6 p. m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Join your "invincible" AFROnerdist hosts as they tackle the following data: noted graphic novelist and illustrator, Jeff Parker (Marvel, DC, Valiant), stops by to discuss his genre-spanning career and future projects; Afronerd Radio supporter and friend of the show, Dedren Snead, also swings by the "steam engine" to discuss his multi-tasked career, as co-creator (shout out to Marco Lopez) of Subsume Media, including a recent appearance on W. Kamau Bell's United Shades of America:

Well, it all "goes down" when billionaire technologist, Elon Musk, hosts this weekend's Saturday Night Live...but why all (or some of) the alleged disdain from some SNL cast members for Musk's appearance?  And more importantly, will this show cause another "crypto bump?";  legendary comedian, Dave Chappelle's podcast, The Midnight Miracle,  premieres on Luminary:

Educator and author, Victor LaValle (Destroyer) is "black on it" with another stellar graphic novel debut entitled Eve, courtesy of Boom Studios (hat tip to our own Uncanny Daryll B. for mentioning the comic during our last show) and lastly, Marvel's Heroes Reborn is revisited but with an interesting twist to the main "616" canon.

Marvel's '21-'22 Roster of Films Trailer (Eternals Sneak Peak); John Ridley on Black Panther; Underground Railroad @Amazon; Black Supes in Infinity Frontier; Snow White Controversy; Bill Maher vs Tech's "Inevitability" & More-Mid Week Airs 8pm EST

Howdy and Hundalasiliah, to our loyal Afronerd Radio listenership! Listen to a new installment of the infamous Mid-Week in Review broadcast airing every Wednesday at 8 p. m. eastern on BTalk 100. Your "immortal" AFROnerdist hosts will be unpacking the following (mid) weekly topics: MCU fans got a treat this week when Marvel dropped a special trailer depicting a "Phase 3" retrospective along with a sneak-peak of the future slate of upcoming movies going into 2022:

It seems that the Black Panther comic is gaining a capable writing successor after Ta-Nehisi Coates' tenure...enter screenwriter John Ridley (12 Years a Slave); noted filmmaker, Barry Jenkins' upcoming Amazon alt-history fantasy series, The Underground  Railroad is garnering critical acclaim;  it seems like the buildup for a Black Superman is in full effect with DC's Infinity Frontier #1....oh and then there's Black Supes' hairline controversy.  It's always about the edges.....  The battle of the 'wokest" continues with cries of political incorrectness found on the revamped Disneyland Snow White amusement ride;  we never did discuss Bill Maher's remarks concerning bitcoin and Twitch; Lastly, if time permits, we must make an assessment of the Black  "manosphere"/men's media movement that's gaining ground and notoriety on social media.

Yasuke & ZERO @Netflix; Green Lantern HBO Max News; That Invincible S1 Finale...whoa; Rick & Morty S5, Lucifer & Sweet Tooth trailers; Ms. Marvel 1st Look; Black Capt. America; Bill Maher Vs Crypto & Twitch?-Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm

Just like a nervous skydiver, sometimes you just have to strap on your parachute and jump to it! It's the Grindhouse, people!  Check out the latest installment as engineered by Afronerd Radio and broadcasting live every Sunday at 6 p.m., courtesy of the BTalk 100 platform.  The topics to be dissected are as follows:   the highly anticipated Yasuke anime series, voiced by popular actor, LaKeith Stansfield premiered this past weekend and we have our thoughts; also on Netflix, the blerd centric, ZERO series appears to be trending nationwide; Twitter citizens were none too pleased with the announcement that HBO Max forthcoming Green Lantern series will place focus on the very ginger, Guy Gardner character versus the higher profile (in animation) John Stewart GL;

As much as Dburt enjoyed the first season of Invincible and also his familiarity with the source material, I'm not sure his "constitution" can take a live action version.  The first season finale was BRUTAL but Amazon has greenlighted two more seasons with again, the expectation of live action  movie sometime in the future;  and then there's a load of trailers....Rick & Morty S5; Lucifer S5 part 2 and Sweet Tooth:

Photos of actor, Iman Veilani in full Ms. Marvel gear hit the cyberwebs to widespread approval; and now more folks are weighing in on the prospects of a Black Captain America hitting the mainstream MCU post The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Disney+ series; Lastly, political humorist, Bill Maher had some pretty critical things to say about the rise in cryptocurrency and the gamer platform, Twitch, during his last Real Time broadcast.
