The Harder They Fall; Madame Xanadu @HBO Max; Nick Cannon Doesn't Have a Limit; Gift of Gab Passes; Extended Shang-Chi Trailer; More Cat & Bats Trouble Incl. Zack Snyder? Boom Studios' Dark Blood-The Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

Hey, folks!  Check out a new episode of The Grindhouse as engineered by the Afronerd Radio "steam engine" and broadcast courtesy of the BTalk 100 internet radio platform.  Our lovely program airs every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern standard time.  Join the "hardest working men in blerd business," your AFROnerdist hosts, as they unravel this week's topical mysteries: after The Harder They Fall trailer hit the cyberwebs this past week, one must ask; Does this spell the return of the Black Western?

The "cup" of comic book to film IPs continues to runneth over with yet another longstanding (but obscure) DC character getting its movie "closeup."  Next up,  HBO Max has purportedly greenlighted a Madame Xanadu series slated to be directed by rising filmmaker, Angela Robinson (Professor Marston and the Wonder Women); entertainer/entrepreneur, Nick Cannon continues to raise eyebrows as he  continues to father four children by almost as many women within a six-month period; regrettably, another hip hop artist passes at 50-Timothy Jerome Parker, better known as Gift of Gab from the legendary Blackalicious duo, died from kidney failure; co-author of the Logan's Run novel, William F. Nolan, has some thoughts about casting choices-if a reboot of the film were ever to get off the ground;  more fully packed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings trailer premiered a few days ago.....and there appear to be quite a few Easter eggs to discuss:

And just when you thought the risque Catwoman/Batman scene proposal for the upcoming third season of HBO Max's Harley Quinn subsided, Zack Snyder's "artistic" commission of the scene in question was removed from Twitter by the DC suits;  Lastly, if time permits, the crew highlights an upcoming Boom Studios July release of the six-issue series, Dark Blood, by screenwriter, LaToya Morgan (AMC's The Walking Dead, Into The Badlands).

More Wakanda Forever Controversy; Batman: The Long Halloween (Pt. 1) Premieres; IKEA's Racial Misstep; "Karen" BET Movie; More Suicide Squad; Tyler Perry Theaters?; LA Times on Black Comic Creators-The Mid Week in Review Airs WED 8pm EST

*Click link to 6.22.21 Afronerd Radio broadcast

I suspect Marvel Entertainment/Disney and filmmaker extraordinaire, Ryan Coogler are "thinking of a master plan" concerning the forthcoming Black Panther sequel but rest easy, your AFROnerdist hosts are on the case!  Welcome to another Afronerd Radio engineered broadcast of The Mid Week in Review airing this Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on the rising BTalk 100 internet platform.  The topics to be discussed are: recent Afronerd Radio guest, Chicago film critic, Emmanuel Noisette (E-Man's Movie Reviews)  had a blistering (and warranted) critique of popular writer/Youtuber, Grace Randolph's reporting of an unconfirmed death scene being proposed for the T'Challa character in the Wakanda Forever film, set to be released in '22;

Our thoughts about the recent release of the DC Animated movie, Batman: The Long Halloween Part 1, based on the eponymous graphic novel limited series by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale; And then there's the always on time and expected racial misstep by corporations that try to honor Black holidays, culture and traditions.  An Atlanta, Georgia IKEA furniture retailer commemorated Juneteenth with a very stereotypical menu for employees causing outrage; and speaking of race......BET's upcoming Karen film is causing quite a stir for mimicking Jordan Peele's Get Out.....badly;

 And then there's a more "fleshed out" trailer for James Gunn's Suicide Squad and again, we give our impressions...oh and we never did discuss, Gunn's DC/Marvel crossover dreams

Reports are coming in that filmmaker, Tyler Perry will be expanding his brand to include a theater district, restaurants and retail shops; lastly, the LA Times gives Black indie comic creators their closeup.

Filmmaker/Graphic Novelist, Shequeta Smith of Sherocomics Stops By; Juneteenth Holiday is Official (But Not to Candace Owens) ; Blacula Reboot; Anthony Mackie on Masculinity; James Gunn on DC/Marvel Film-The Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

Greetings, folks!  We're b(l)ack by popular demand! Listen to a new installment of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse broadcast airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Join your 'not ready for primetime" hosts as they unravel this weekend's "blerdic" topics:  first up, noted writer, filmmaker, and CEO of Shero Comics, Shequeta Smith stops by not only to discuss her career and Rayven Choi IP, but also her latest crowdfunding campaign, courtesy of ifundwomen.com.

And believe it or not, there's still more show to imbibe in! It's official, Juneteenth, an observance to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved Africans in America, was celebrated in various locales in the US since 1866, has now become a federal holiday.  We give our thoughts.....as well as highlighting some who appear to have a differing view, enter political pundit, Candace Owens. word has it that the iconic Black horror classic, Blacula, starring the late and legendary Shakespearean actor, William Marshall is getting a reboot;  (Black) Captain America, himself, Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Outside the Wire) had some pretty interesting things to say about the intentions of how his character interplays off of Sebastian Stan's Soldier.  Mackie asserts the friendship displayed in TFATWS is representative of traditional masculinity-much to the chagrin of those that espouse (or exploit) LGBTQ pairings on screen (especially if the script or canon doesn't call for it);  maybe we shouldn't joke about reparations BUT which do you think will come to fruition, repairing Black Wall Street or James Gunn's prodding the powers that be for a DC/Marvel crossover film? Let's just say all things are possible; if concerned parties have the will.

In The Heights Black Latino Erasure; A Risque Deletion From HBO Max's Harley Quinn; New Black Memphis Film Studio; Tulsa Riot for MBA Study @Harvard?; Stargirl S2 Trailer; The Mid Week in Review Airs WED 8pm EST

Time to be terse, people!  Check out the latest edition of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review broadcast airing every Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Listen to your favored AFROnerdist hosts bring their own special brand of analyses to the following issues:  the growing popularity of the Latin centric HBO Max musical, In the Heights isn't stopping many critics from noticing a dearth of Afro-Latin representation in the film;  and speaking of HBO Max, it appears the removal of a very intimate scene between Batman and Catwoman in the upcoming third season of Harley Quinn' has fans titillated and rattled at the same time; thankfully, Tyler Perry Studios is not the only black-owned movie production company in town.....enter BLP Film Studios located in Memphis, TN;

The historical "well" known as Black Wall Street and the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921 just got deeper with the recent announcement that the tragic event will now be an M.B.A. Case Study at Harvard (but what about HBCUs?); our thoughts about the S2 Stargirl trailer that dropped on the cyberwebs;  is actor/singer, Tyrese Gibson wrong for asserting that the forthcoming Sony Morbius film is set in the MCU?;  a ScreenRant.com piece provides greater insight into the Milestone Static Shock reboot by writer, Vita Ayala, and illustrator, ChrisCross;  And lastly, we discuss and wax about an article written by frequent guest, Sergio Mims, noted Chicago cinephile and film historian.  Sergio's RogerEbert.com piece places a societal and racialized microscope on the John Ford Western classic, Sergeant Rutledge (1960), starring Woody Strode and Jeffrey Hunter.

Lupin @Netflix Returns; VA Tech Murder Twist; Trese @Netflix; "Cater 2U" is Canceled (Allegedly); Scooby's Velma Gets Race Bended; Marvel's Wonder Woman; Finally, That Crypto Discussion-The Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

*Click link to 6.12.21 Afronerd Radio broadcast

Dear (and loyal) Afronerd Radio listeners, we are gathered here today (every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern) to get through this thing called "The Grindhouse!"   Check out a new episode courtesy of the BTalk 100 platform.  Listen to your favorite AFROnerdists wax prolific about the following issues: the very popular French heist series, Lupin, returns to Netflix this weekend;  yet another tragic murder-death-kill story centered on a promising VA Tech linebacker charged with second-degree murder but the circumstances come with a twist; another Netflix series released this weekend, Trese, places a much-needed spotlight on Filipino culture, mythology, horror, and animation;

Yet again, a time-honored classic song (17 years!) is revisited analyzed under the PC microscope, and deemed improper by today's standards.....Black Twitter puts Destiny Child and their R&B romance standard, "Cater 2 U" on trial for promoting too much (black) female submission to (equally, black) men; famed nerd detective, Velma Dinkley from the Scooby-Doo animated franchise canon gets an Asian race bent makeover and Scooby purists are none too happy; Marvel's Heroes Reborn series continues to (not so vaguely) interpret DC IPs with an interesting take on the Power Princess character, the Wonder Woman analogue; Lastly, if time permits, perhaps Dburt will get a chance to muse about the current state of crypto finance.

It's like a jungle sometimes, fellow AFROnerdists!  Welcome to the latest edition of Afronerd Radio's The Mid Week in Review cyber-broadcast, airing every Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100. The topics du jour this (mid) week are as follows: thoughts about the concept of Black Music Month and how the culture treats and or curates the African American (and diasporic) contributions of music performers-past and present; an offshoot of the BMM discussion, entails a piece from Ultimateclassicrock.com highlighting overlooked songs from the late Minneapolis music icon, Prince music catalog; recent reports are affirming an uptick in enrollment to HBCUs; the scion of the current POTUS (President Joe Biden), Hunter Biden has some "splaining" to do for purportedly using the infamous n-word in recently released texts with his attorney; the highly anticipated Disney+ Loki series was released today and we give you our first impressions of episode one;  rumor has it that actor, Tenoch Huerta has been cast as Namor Mckenzie in the forthcoming Black Panther 2-Wakanda Forever MCU film; Dburt checked out the new Disney+ short, Us Again wishing it was a longer, fully fleshed out film (or series);

Screenrant.com interviewed filmmaker, Todd Thompson concerning his Woman in Motion: Nichelle Nichols, Star Trek and the Remaking of NASA documentary

Zack Snyder hints that he would consider an anime to film translation of Dragon Ball Z, if given the opportunity during an interview with Tyrone Magnus; is the Blue Beetle film now destined for HBO Max?  And is that a good thing? Lastly, thoughts about the new Boom Studios comic series, Basilisk

Black America We have A Problem: From Trap Dining to Bonnets in Public; Sweet Tooth @Netflix; Tony Weaver's The Uncommons: Crypto Currently; N.K. Jemisin @TriStar; Jupiter's Legacy 200M Price Tag-The Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

What's shakin' folks! It's that time  AGAIN!  Check out a new installment of Afronerd Radio's The Grindhouse broadcast airing this Sunday at 6 p. m. eastern on the BTalk 100 internet radio platform. The topics to be unpacked by your local AFROnerdist hosts are:  two stories hitting the cyberwebs that appear to be seemingly connected....the first story involves the growing popularity of Atlanta, GA restaurant, "The Bando" that channels ghettoized stereotypes with delicacies such as "Crack Wings"

The second narrative highlights certain aspects of the culture/society being lowered stemming from comedienne, Monique's recent commentary concerning the sloven appearance of some Black women she has encountered during her travels.  Unfortunately, quite a few social media responses were not favorable toward her (rather astute) observations:

The Vertigo comic, Sweet Tooth gets its close up/cinematic translation via Netflix as it premieres this weekend; TheMarySue.com site highlights up and coming Blerd and CEO (Weird Enough Productions), Tony Weaver and his manga series, The Uncommons; hopefully, Dburt will get around to actually having that state of crypto discussion; sci-fi/afrofuturism author, N.K. Jemisin, just inked a 7-figure deal with TriStar Pictures allowing her to adapt her Broken Earth trilogy to film.  Lastly, after discussing the cancellation of Netflix' Jupiter's Legacy and how we thought that a low budget might've been an issue....well it turns out it cost 200M!!!  Where did the money go?

Castlevania's Isaac & Black Characterization; Friends vs Living Single; Naomi Osaka; Marvel's Pride Month; Eternals Might Set Up MCU Mutants; Neil Gaiman Defends Netflix' Sandman; Eden @Netflix vs Eve-The Mid Week in Review Airs WED 8pm EST

*Click on link to 6.2.21 Afronerd Radio broadcast

Let's go, people!  It's time to rock and roll!  Welcome to another edition of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review broadcast-airing every Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Your friendly neighborhood web-slinging AFROnerdist hosts will unpack the following (mid) weekly issues: the jury is still out if Netflix will greenlight another season of their popular anime series, Castlevania but one standout is the Black anti-villain, Isaac.  A recent piece from TheMarySue.com site highlights Dracula's former war council general for his complex morality and intellect, which is rare for a Black character in live-action or animated cinema; with all the hoopla centering around last week's Friends reunion, inevitable comparisons with the other 90s sitcom, Living Single come up and the differences can't be any more black and white; Naomi Osaka, the second-ranked woman's tennis player in the world, just caused quite a stir for dropping out of the French Open due to alleged mental duress and reluctance to dealing with the media-we give our impressions;  well it's LGBTQ Pride month, and in commemoration of the annual observance, Marvel is offering a slate of varied covers (including Star Wars)....including Lando Calrissian  (here we go....);

Just how are mutants going to be placed into the current iteration of the MCU?  Perhaps the forthcoming Eternals film will provide some clues; prolific author/graphic novelist, Neil Gaiman defends the diverse casting decisions concerning his soon to be released Netflix' Sandman series; perhaps Dburt will eke out some time to discuss the current state of the cryptocurrency market (HODL is the operative acronym); Dburt checked out the post-apocalyptic anime series, Eden and as engaging as it is...maybe the likeminded, Eve comic by Victor Lavalle should get its animated treatment as well. Lastly, the NFL pledges to halt "race norming" when reviewing CTE and mental impairment injury claims involving Black players.
