So due to time constraints (when is that ever NOT the case), let's just get to the topics at hand.  Listen to a new episode of Afronerd Radio's Mid-Week in Review airing this Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  The topics du jour are: in line with Dburt's personal musings-just what objectively happened with the concept of the "cool aesthetic" as a component of (Black) pop culture, entertainment, and sports?  How would you define cool?  When, where, and why was cool displayed and where did it go?; and dovetailing off of "missing" cool, where is the Black performing Soul and  R & B music tradition?  Or has it been transferred to artists like Sam Smith, Adele, and Justin Timberlake?; Batman: The Long Halloween Part Two was recently released digitally and we give you our thoughts; even more news by filmmaker, James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, Suicide Squad) concerning his probing of Marvel and DC corporates about a superhero IP crossover vehicle (hint: the big two didn't say "no"); director Zack Snyder's  (Justice League, Army of the Dead)  phoenix continues to rise with another Netflix project, Army of Thieves.  Here's the trailer and it seems like it's in a connected universe with his Army of the Dead:

And as expected, CGI giant, Lucasfilm Ltd, after a rather lackluster display of tech resulting in a poor visual presentation of a "young" Mark Hamill in last season's Mandalorian, has hired a "deepfake" Youtuber whose videos are of better "uncanny valley" quality than the famed production company's recent work products...hence:

Recent reports are asserting that the set of the current Black Panther sequel, Wakanda Forever has scenes depicting a memorial for the late Chadwick Boseman's character, T'challa which lends further credence that Disney/Marvel is killing off the character; movie star, Will Smith may be gunning for an Oscar based on his new trailer, King Richard, in which he portrays Richard Williams, the father of tennis legends, Venus and Serena Williams:

The Milestone Media reboot continues with the release of Icon and Rocket #1 and lastly, again, if time permits, we give our thoughts about Olympian Simone Biles withdrawal from the current Olympic games due to mental health concerns.

Black Supes @HBO Max?; SDCC @ Home Revelations; Slavery Themed Wedding Pix Go Viral; He-Man Debuts; TrollHunters; Blade Runner: Black Lotus; Static Shock Vintage Rumor; The Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

Wow, are the days moving fast, folks!  Let's rectify that, and slow things down a bit, by checking out the latest edition of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse broadcast-airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Join your ethereal (like Marvel's Vision) AFROnerdist hosts, Dburt and the "Uncanny" Daryll B., as they discuss the following topics:  just when we thought we were going to get one Black Superman story, it turns out that courtesy of actor, Michael B. Jordan, we might be getting two Afro-Kryptonian projects in the next few years.  It was recently announced that Jordan will be bringing Val Zod to life in a presently untitled HBO-Max vehicle; and if a Black Supes wasn't enough, what will audiences think about a Blacktino Batgirl? It was just announced that actor, Leslie Grace (In the Heights) was tapped to portray the "Bat-Family" member in a new WB film; San Diego's Comic-Con or SDCC21 is off to the races albeit virtually for the second time in a row due to the current uncertainty of global COVID-19 pandemic; We'll try to decode the stories and revelations coming out of the event this year; And then there are the recent slavery-themed wedding pictures that have enraged many on the internet.......

All that we can ask is who and why?  We will try to use our best Holmesian skills of deduction to figure this hot mess out; the highly-anticipated Netflix Masters of the Universe: Revelation reboot by filmmaker, Kevin Smith debuted this weekend and we have our thoughts;  Oscar-winning director, Guillermo Del Toro's TrollHunters Netflix franchise is wrapping with this weekend's release; coming out of SDCC21, we see that the Blade Runner: Black Lotus trailer just hit the cyberwebs:

There's an interesting but not surprising story coming out about the WB's early attempts to put together a Static Shock project together except the canonically Black character might have been portrayed by the very White 90s Home Improvement actor, Jonathan Taylor Thomas-you can't make this stuff up, people:

Jordan Peele is back (but he never really left) with another horror film entitled, Nope and, all that we have as a teaser is this poster.....hmmm:

And lastly, who is Mr. M and,  is he Marvel's version of DC's Dr. Manhattan?  Let's discuss.

Sports Illustrated's Black History Moment? Black Widow's B.O. Performance; Alan Moore & Comic Creator Woes; Black (Male) Erasure is Real; First UK Football Now Lewis Hamilton? Loki Thru a Black Lens?-The Mid Week in Review Airs WED 8pm EST

*Click link to 7.21.21 Afronerd Radio broadcast

Cheers, people!  Let's get to it with the swiftness.  Listen to the latest installment of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review airing this Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on the BTalk 100 platform.  The topics to be discussed by your competent AFROnerdist hosts are as follows:  the annual Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue has arrived but not without controversy.  The current magazine is sporting three separate covers featuring tennis champion, Naomi Osaka; rapper, Megan Thee Stallion, and model/actor, Lenya Bloom, the first transgender person to share the feature spot....we give our thoughts; Marvel's long-awaited and highly anticipated film, Black Widow entered its second week of release with a precipitous drop in revenue and now the speculators are wondering why did it happen and, does this spell trouble for Disney's decade-plus commercial streak?; something we failed to address during Sunday's Grindhouse show, must be addressed-the finances of our favorite comic creators.  the daughter of noted graphic novelist, Alan Moore explains and defends her father concerning his consistent critique of the comic industry's long-standing failure to pay writers fairly for their IPs that have gone on to become billion-dollar franchises;

Dburt has some thoughts about a recent commentary by recent guest, Dr. T. Hasan Johnson concerning the not-so-subtle obfuscation of Black men and their accomplishments by mainstream media;  Didn't we just dissect the UK racism story involving vitriol spewed toward black British football players?  Well let's fast forward to the hatred foisted upon Formula One racing great, Lewis Hamilton, who received online racist barbs after he won the British Grand Prix; Lastly, educator/progressive pundit and resident blerd, Dr. Jason Johnson has some rather interesting "black lens" thoughts pertaining to Disney +'s Loki finale.

Hip Hop Legend, Biz Markie Passes: SurrealEstate @SYFY; Loki Finale: Deadpool: Space Jam; "Karen" Stories; Tyler Perry Pushed to Hire Writers (Finally); Gunpowder Milkshake; Comic Creatives & Their Finances: Black Rifle Coffee-The Grindhouse Airs SUN, 6pm EST

Let's get into it, people!  Welcome to the "hippest trip in America," better known as Afronerd Radio's The Grindhouse internet broadcast, airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on the BTalk 100 platform. Join your very competent blerd-centric hosts as they delve into this week's pop topics: MAN...this stuff is happening far too frequently.  Hip Hop icon,  Marcel Theo Hall aka Biz Markie passes at 57 after suffering complications from Type 2 diabetes;  new supernatural TV series alert!  It seems like the new SYFY series, SurrealEstate is garnering great reviews but is teetering below the radar. Hopefully, our blerd universe will assist with changing that perception; our thoughts about the Loki season finale and the revelation that there will be an S2 ; in a rather slick and comedic way, the latest Deadpool teaser shows that the character is indeed a part of the MCU:

Reviews are in for the Space Jam reboot featuring Lebron James and Don Cheadle, and albeit they're not that great, money is still flowing through the animated film overtaking the top spot from Marvel's Black Widow; and just as we are forced to address a weekly onslaught of untimely celebrity deaths, we also have to address even more Karen vs Black folk minding their own damn business tales;

After a rather interesting video clip of Tyler Perry's Sistas TV show went viral, the consensus on Twitter concluded that Mr. Perry needs to hire writers:

Netflix' Gunpowder Milkshake premiered this week with Kingsman comparisons;  Can a comic book creator make a living without a secondary stream of income?  And lastly, is Black Rifle Coffee the Right's answer to left-leaning Starbucks coffee?

Black He-Man?; UK Football's Racism; Aquaman Artist, Robson Rocha Dies; Black Widow Scores; Carl Sagan "Proto" Woke?; Black Spelling Bee's Future Past; What's Critical Race Theory?; SDCC @Home Year 2- Mid Week in Review Airs WED, 8pm EST

Salutations to our longstanding AFROnerdist listenership!  It's that time AGAIN! Check out the latest episode of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review internet show airing this Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on the BTalk 100 platform.  Your highly favored AFROnerdist hosts will be waxing about the following issues:  somehow we overlooked a major caveat attached to the He-Man animated Netflix reboot but purportedly there will be a racial swap with the character and as expected longtime fans are none too pleased; in the wake of the European Championship football finals, it appears that Black UK players are experiencing an uptick in racial animus from alleged fans on social media;

rising star and fan-favorite graphic novel illustrator, Robson Rocha passes at 41 from COVID-19; the highly anticipated Marvel Studios' Black Widow movie finally premiered-post pandemic-to very respectable box office receipts and we give you our impressions;  late astrophysicist and original Cosmos host, Carl Sagan had some pretty insightful things to say about race and Star Wars in a revisited viral '78 interview as a guest on Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show: Hat tip goes to long-time Afronerd Radio supporter, Sergio Mims for pointing our team toward a black historical anecdote regarding a national  spelling bee champion during the early 20th century which allows us to connect that story to the more recent case of Zaila Avant-garde

We need to talk about Critical Race Theory if time permits....what (and why) is it being discussed as an educational tool?  And more importantly, why the controversy?  And lastly, it looks like San Diego Comic-Con is making another virtual return for 2021.

Rachel Nichols' Apology; Iconic Filmmakers, Richard Donner & Robert Downey Sr; Dean Cain vs Capt. America; Jackman in the MCU, After All? Nikole Hannah-Jones & Ta-Nehisi Coates @Howard U-The Mid Week in Review Airs WED 8pm EST

Those infamous time constraints!  Let's just get to it, shall we?  Welcome to a new episode of Afronerd Radio's The Grindhouse broadcast airing this (and every) Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100. Listen to the musings of Dburt and the "Uncanny" Daryll B. as they attempt to make sense of this (mid) week's issues:  an unfortunate dustup over a taped conversation by notable ESPN sports journalist, Rachel Nichols espousing her thoughts about diversity and the hiring of her African-American colleague, Maria Taylor;  more unfortunate deaths occurring in threes-two prolific filmmakers-Richard Donner (Superman, The Goonies, Lethal Weapon franchise), Robert Downey Sr., father of you know who, helming films such as Putney Swope, The Twilight Zone, and actor, Suzzanne Douglas (The Parent Hood, Stella Got Her Groove Back); former Superman actor, Dean Cain (Lois & Clark) takes a shot at a new Captain America comic, The United States of Captain America, in which the titular superhero questions the American dream;  did actor, Hugh Jackman's recent tweet signify that his iconic portrayal of Marvel character, Wolverine, could transition into the MCU, after all?;

Noted journalists, Nikole Hannah-Jones (1619 project) and Ta-Nehisi Coates (Between the World and Me, The Water Dancer, Captain America, Black Panther) join Howard University faculty in the wake of Jones' UNC tenure controversy; And lastly, more Cosby news and if time permits, Dburt has some thoughts about the lack of Black themed toys and merchandising in our current blerd/geek marketplace.

4th of July Episode! BET Awards; Cosby is Released; Godmother of Grunge, Tina Bell; Lovecraft Country Canceled; Mr. Miracle; Summer of Soul; No More Mortal Kombat VG?-The Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

*Click link to 7.4.21 Afronerd Radio broadcast

Happy Independence Day, AFROnerdists!  Listen to the latest installment of Afronerd Radio's The Grindhouse show airing this Sunday at 6 p.m. (eastern) on the BTalk 100 internet broadcasting platform. Check out the latest musings of your Grindhouse hosts, The "Uncanny" Daryll B. and Dburt aka "The Afronerd," as they discuss the following topics: unfortunately, we had a preempted Mid Week episode and we couldn't dissect last week's BET Awards, so we'll get into a belated analysis tonight;  comedian/actor, Bill Cosby is released from prison after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his sex assault conviction and the Black (and other) communities are divided; Cosby's announcement also caused problems for his former TV wife, Phylicia Rashad and her tenure as the Dean of Fine Arts at Howard University;  Dburt discovers that the "godmother" of the Grunge music genre was a Black woman by the name of Tina Bell:

And another blerd centric show bites the dust....HBO's fairly popular Lovecraft Country gets canceled after one season and fans are understandably angry and bewildered;  more on DC's new (and of color) Mr. Miracle comic series;  The Roots' (and The Tonight Show) drummer, Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson sheds light on Black culture circa 1969 via his new Hulu documentary, Summer of Soul:

And lastly, Ed Boon's NetherRealm Studios is officially ending DLC for Mortal Kombat 11 in order to focus on future VG projects.  Does that mean a Marvel, DC, or crossover game is in the works?
