M.A.N.T.I.S. Should be Rebooted; Super Crooks & Masters of the Universe Pt.2 @Netflix; Omicron Variant; Female Dr. Who Blamed for Rise in UK Crime?; Chappelle Goes Back to HS; Idris in Next Bond Film?-The Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

As usual, we're "knee-deep" in topical content for this week's show, so let's get to it, shall we?  Welcome to a brand new episode from the "steam engine" better known as Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse, airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on the BTalk 100 platform.  Listen to the sonic meanderings of your cosmic-powered AFROnerdist hosts as they highlight the following issues: we've discussed the groundbreaking but failed FOX Black sci-fi, series, M.A.N.T.I.S. (starring JLA Animated alum, Carl Lumbly) in the past, but in the wake of a Black multi-genre renaissance, why hasn't it been rebooted?  And if it were to be revised, what should change (or not) to coalesce with today's sensibilities?

Time to give our impressions of actually three Netflix animated shows running concurrently-Super Crooks, Masters of the Universe: Revelation (part 2), and Arcane; as if we didn't have enough to worry about with COVID crises, now the Omicron variant is garnering a great deal of attention and concern. Will the current vaccines be able to hold this strain back?  We'll discuss; so now the fear of a female Dr. Who is being blamed for the uptick in U.K. crime? Let's discuss; legendary comedian, Dave Chappelle pays a visit to his alma mater, Duke Ellington School of the Arts with mixed results;  there's been so much talk about noted actor, Idris Elba taking on the James Bond mantle but word  has it that he might be showing up in the next film as a villain (why not an alternate MI6 agent?); And lastly, more details are coming out about the real reason HBO canceled the popular black sci-fi/horror series, Lovecraft Country;

Pre-Thanksgiving Broadcast: Was Kaepernick Right (NFL like US Slavery?); Hawkeye @Disney Debut; Guilty Verdict for Arbery Killing; Michigan Black Owned Studio; New takes on Hulk, Black Panther-Mid Week in Review Airs WED 8pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

It's a Pre-Turkey Day show, citizens! Let's go!  Check out the latest episode of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review broadcast-airing every Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on the BTalk 100 internet radiocast. Listen to your "invincible" AFROnerdist hosts as they wax about the following (mid) weekly issues: legendary athlete/activist, Colin Kaepernick's Ava DuVernay directed drama series, Colin in Black and White is currently being shown on Netflix, but as expected, the show is not without controversy.  Kaepernick's assertion that the NFL's treatment of its Black players is similar to chattel slavery has raised the ire of many critics; well, it's finally here, Disney's Hawkeye series (two episodes) premiered today and we have our thoughts;

In perhaps a karmic turnaround, the Georgia jury came back with a guilty of murder verdict for the three white men responsible for killing unarmed jogger, Ahmaud Arbery; Dburt just discovered this bit of interesting entertainment business news- the comedian, Amaru, is currently building Greenwood District Studios, a Black-owned movie studio located in Lansing, Michigan;

And lastly, Marvel (print) is premiering two revamped comic book series for the Hulk and Black Panther, with the promise to take the two iconic characters in different and unforeseen directions, thematically.  We share our thoughts.

Rittenhouse Verdict; "Negro Santa" Controversy On 1 Side & @Disney Loves Black Santa on the Other; Live-Action Cowboy Bebop Debut; Will Smith @Marvel?; Black Sesame Street? King Richard Reviews Are Coming In-The Grindhouse Airs 6pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

Welcome to the other Black experience, true believers!  Check out the latest episode of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse broadcast airing this and every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Join your ever-ready AFROnerdist hosts as they tackle the following weekly subject matter:  discussing the widely controversial (but expected) not guilty verdict concerning wannabe vigilante Kyle Rittenhouse;  for some reason, the idea of a Black Santa has caused anger and derision for a Black Little Rock homeowner who dares to display a "negro" Santa yard decoration; but on the other hand, Disney is promoting the Black Santa idea for the first time during this Yuletide season (go figure);

The live-action translation of the hit anime series, Cowboy Bebop premiered this weekend on Netflix and we have our first impressions; purportedly movie star, Will Smith is in talks with Marvel to portray some unknown IP, but if the deal were to take place, Smith has some provisions; we never did talk about legendary PBS children's show, Sesame Street's intentional Black cultural roots; And speaking of Will Smith, Oscar talk is in the air for his portrayal of Venus and Serena patriarch, Richard Williams in this weekend's release of King Richard.  And lastly, we would be remiss if we didn't muse on the killing of Memphis rapper, Young Dolph.

No Way Home Trailer; Sophia Urista's New Notoriety is a Pisser! ; Marvel's Magneto Problem; Sesame Street's Black Roots; The Batman's new batmobile; More on Disney+ Reveals; LeVar's Trivial Pursuit; Hit Monkey @Hulu-Grindhouse Airs WED 8pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

We're not afraid to jump into the shallow end of the pool, folks!  Check out the latest edition of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review show airing this Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on the BTalk 100 internet broadcasting platform. Join your "ever lovin" AFROnerdist hosts as they wax about the following (mid) weekly issues: it's finally here! the long-awaited trailer for the third installment of the Sony-MCU Spider-Man franchise, No way Home hit the cyberwebs yesterday and we have our thoughts:

More hot takes....our thoughts about an artist who was promoted here at the steam engine through our support for Afropunk, Sophia Urista.  Urista, while performing with her band, Brass Against,  purportedly committed a vile act last week on a willing fan and we have no words (but we do).

This is how we remembered Urista...now, it's a different story.

As the MCU continues to move full steam ahead, some fans and writers are wondering about the plausibility of certain characters.  Enter X-Men's Magneto.  Screenrant ponders how the character's Holocaust backstory works in 2021;  Smithsonianmag.com highlights the legendary children's PBS TV show, Sesame Street by way of its intentional Black cultural origins; more closeup shots of the new Batmobile slated to make its appearance in next year's The Batman starring Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz:

And lastly, if time permits, more discourse centered around last week's Disney plus reveals, LeVar Burton's new game show gig, Trivial Pursuit, and thoughts about Marvel/Hulu's Hit Monkey.

Wakanda Forever News; Blade Runner Animated; Upcoming Disney+ Projects (Incl. She-Hulk); FBA/ADOS Have No Culture? (Acc. to "Pressa"); Chappelle HS Cancelation?; Ridley Scott on Capes; Image Comics' New Masters CB-Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

Let's get to it, people!  The longstanding Archimedes quote-"The shortest distance between two points is a straight line" remains as constant as well.....a straight line.  Pull up a seat and listen to the latest musings of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse broadcast airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  The topics up for grabs thiS week are as follows: more news is coming out concerning the BTS production of  Wakanda Forever, the sequel to the 2018 blockbuster, The Black Panther.  If it's not speculation about Shuri actress, Letitia Wright, then it's the recent rumor that the actor who portrayed M'Baku, Winston Duke, might be donning the Panther mantle. Let's discuss.;  the animated translation of the Blade Runner franchise, Blade Runner: Black Lotus, made its debut this weekend and we give our impressions;

Whelp...the revelations that came out of Disney Plus Day are like a 90s Puff Dady song, "Can't Stop, Won't Stop"....and we'll wax about the reveals, especially, She-Hulk.

Burgeoning Toronto rapper, Pressa, who is also of Filipino and Jamaican extraction, made some pretty ignorant and untoward comments about Black Americans not having a culture or knowing "what island they come from."  Ladies and gentlemen, apparently ignorance really is bliss...   And the Dave Chappelle saga continues with the postponement of his alma mater's (The Duke Ellington School of the Arts), fundraiser due to Ellington students taking umbrage with the allegedly "anti-Trans" remarks from the comedian's Closer standup special; legendary filmmaker, Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Blade Runner, Alien, Prometheus) joins a growing list of powerful directors that have outward disdain for superhero films;  And lastly, Image Comics upcoming New Masters graphic novel series has garnered Dburt's interest, especially its "West Africa versus Alien colonizers" theme.

Stepdad Disney Ad; Walter Mosley's The Thing; More Eternals (Blade?); One Piece Live Action @Netflix; HBCUs Comeback? (We've Been Here Years!); Anime @Netflix; Image Comics vs Unionization & More-The Mid Week in Review Airs WED 8pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

Ok people, let's get ready! Welcome to the umpteenth edition of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review airing this Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  The topics that are up for grabs this evening are as follows: Disney has a new animated holiday ad entitled, Stepdad, centering a Black (step)father being the patriarch to a new family.  The ad also features the vocal jazz stylings of the great Greg Porter but some on social media are critiquing the ad for a number of reasons.  Per usual we will discuss;

Legendary novelist, Walter Mosley (Devil in a Blue Dress, Gone Fishin', Maximum Fantastic Four) is retreading his sci-fi and afro-futurist roots with his first standalone Marvel comic, The Thing;  perhaps a few more thoughts about last week's premiere of The Eternals including thoughts about a voiceover featured during on the mid-credits revelation; more thoughts and musings about the beloved and longstanding One Piece anime/manga series receiving the live-action treatment courtesy of Netflix;

Dburt being a proud HBCU graduate (Go Hampton Pirates!), was bewildered by an article from The Root proclaiming that Black colleges/universities are having a renaissance or a "comeback."   Did they ever leave?....they've been here for years!; and since we're talking about One Piece, perhaps we have to acknowledge all of the upcoming anime IPs scheduled to appear on Netflix in the near future. And lastly, if time permits, we must address Image Comics versus the pursuit for unionization with CB workers.

Context Media Founder Torraine Walker Checks In; Eternals Review; Travis Scott Concert Debacle; Joe Budden Trolling?; No Union for Image?; JLQ (No Black Superteam, huh?); Crypto Coachella?-The Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

Greetings, loyal AFROnerd citzenry!  Let's just get to it, shall we? Listen to the latest installment of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse show, airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on the BTalk 100 internet broadcasting platform.  Join your highly favored AFROnerdist hosts, as they unpack and muse about the following topics: burgeoning journalist (Fusion, Medium, HuffPost), content creator, and founder of the online digital news and information site, Context Media Group stops by to discuss his formative years, career, growing online impact and the need for independent Black men's media; the highly-anticipated Marvel superteam movie, The Eternals, premiered this weekend and is poised for a 70M box office return despite mixed reviews-we give you our first impressions; popular rapper, Travis Scott (or his concert promoters) is in a whole heap of legal trouble due to his Astroworld concert that caused a crowd surge resulting in the death of 8 people and numerous injuries; hip-hop artist and popular Spotify podcaster, Joe Budden purportedly "came out" in mid-conversation during his show but many believe that it's a trolling tactic to prove a point about ones alleged and crafted self-identity being used for social (media) currency:

The idea of unionization in the comic book industry has been a wedge issue between creators as "independent contractors" versus the corporate overlords.  Well, what happened with Image Comics employees and their Comic Book Workers United union effort is (shocker!) being rejected by the third most popular CB printing entity; the soon to be released Justice League Queer (JLQ) is a one-shot comic which is an outgrowth of DC's Pride series this past June but the question remains, can we see a similar focus on Black heroes or is John Ridley's The Other History of the DC Universe sufficient?  Dburt asked this question previously.....will we ever see a like-minded mainstream naming and/or cultural emphasis on Black heroes (culminating in a group or superteam?). And lastly, could NYC become a crypto/bitcoin hub, and is the recent NFT.NYC 4-day event dubbed "Crypto Coachella evidence of that assertion?

The Harder They Fall Premieres; Tina Turner, Jay-z & LL Cool J-Debating R&RHOF; SQUID Crypto Scandal; Morbius Trailer; Facebook's Metaverse; Iron Fist No More? NFT Racist Fail & CRT Misdirect in VA-Mid Week in Review Airs WED 8pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

What's up, loyal AFROnerdists! Due to time constraints, let's just get into it.  It's our latest Mid Week in Review episode, courtesy of the Afronerd Radio "steam engine" and broadcasting live on BTalk 100 this Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern.  The topics to be discussed are: the long-awaited Netflix Black Western film, The Harder They Fall debuted today and we have our first impressions; three phenoms and icons were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-Tina Turner, Jay-z and L.L. Cool J.  Perhaps it's been a long time coming but do they all fit the bill for being considered "Rock." (Tina Turner is a true rocker and should have been inducted years ago as a solo artist!); many pop culture enthusiasts are keenly aware of the highly touted Netflix hit from South Korea, The Squid Game but how many knew that there was a cryptocurrency of the same name?  Well, pray that you didn't know about this crypto or invested in it because it turns out that it was a well-orchestrated scam. We will discuss....

And then there's the Morbius trailer.....again (when is this coming out again?)

And then there were some topics we failed to address during our Grindhouse show (tech problems, folks) such as the Facebook rebranding into "Metaverse"; the Iron Fist "rebranding" of sorts as well; a former "hobbit" (Elijah Wood) gets indirectly caught up in an NFT "racist" scandal and lastly, there were notable US elections that seem to be favorable for the Repubs (Virginia, specifically) based on Critical Race Theory as a red herring misapplied scare tactic.  Again....we'll get into it.
