Black News Channel Shuts Down; The Batman's Joker Footage; Icon, Smokey Robinson on Blackness; Nova Movie News; James Bond @Amazon; Kraven the Hunter Film? Dark Universe's Bride of Frankenstein Canceled; Nic Cage is Right About Marvel; -Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

Salutations, with a side order of cornbread and crumpets, to all our loyal supporters and listeners!  It's time, once again, for Afronerd Radio's The Grindhouse broadcast, airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Check out the latest musings of your AFROnerdist hosts, discussing the following topics: regrettably, after just two years of existence and high expectations, the Black News Channel shuts down due to low viewership and financial insolvency; after a great deal of speculation, Matt Reeves releases a five-minute deleted clip of actor, Barry Keoghan's take of the Joker from The Batman-we have our thoughts:

Something that we failed to pick up on but has been resonating for a few weeks....legendary soul singer/songwriter, Smokey Robinson had some pretty strong thoughts about opting to be Black versus African-American as it pertains to an ethnic identity:

Another Marvel IP slated for a movie adaptation has been announced, Nova, maybe hitting screens (or streaming platforms) in the near future;   the first project coming out of the Amazon purchase of the James Bond IP has been revealed and it's not what many fans were expecting; so it appears that another "Spiderverse" villain centric property has entered into the cinematic fray, Kraven the Hunter is currently filming with Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass franchise, Avengers: Age of Ultron) tackling the role; the proposed Bride of Frankenstein reboot from Universal's Dark Universe has been nixed; So what does it mean that Tom Cruise is officially a part of Marvel's MCU?; lastly, perhaps actor, Nic Cage, who is having a bit of a film renaissance, might be onto something about laying off the criticisms of Marvel not being real cinema.

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

Due to time constraints, let's just get into the matter at hand, shall we? You know the drill....Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review airs every Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100 internet broadcasting platform.  Join your highly favored AFROnerdist hosts as they unpack the following (mid) weekly topics: HBCUs rejoice (well Morehouse and Spellman Colleges, specifically), famed designer Ralph Lauren is partnering up with the two aforementioned schools for a clothing line harkening back to 20s through the 50s; a new opera based on the Emmett Till lynching has raised the ire of activists due to the centering of the White author (and White guilt) over the actual African-American tragedy; our thoughts about the current box office battle between superhero films, The Batman and Spiderman: No Way Home and why Spidey is apparently outpacing "Bats."  Also....why exactly haven't audiences been allowed to get a sufficient Robin story from any recent Batman movie iterations;

If time permits, a brief discussion on the Judge Kentanji Brown Jackson confirmation hearings for SCOTUS;

A few months ago we at Afronerd radio spoke about the tragic passing of musician and music/pop culture critic, Greg Tate but a recent MSN.com article posits who should (or could) inherit Tate's rather large Black culturally introspective mantle; picking up where we left off a few shows ago (sorry for the preemption), Kazembe Ajamu Coleman, the father of popular actress, Zendaya Coleman, made some recent remarks about how Black fathers of successful children are conspicuously removed from the media as it relates to being architects of their scions' accomplishments; Dburt noticed something about The Simpsons that's worthy of discussion, especially the recent "A Serious Flanders" episode

Lastly, the return of Afro Samurai in a relaunch under Titan Comics....is there more to this announcement? Let's discuss.

Ms. Marvel Trailer; Racists vs The Batman; The I Think vs. I Feel Quagmire; Jane Campion vs The Williams Sisters; Return of Snake Plisskin? Nicolas Cage; U.S. Comix in Japan; Grindhouse Leftovers & More-Mid Week in Review Airs WED 8 pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

Howdy, good people!  Welcome to the latest episode of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review airing this Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Check out the latest meanderings from your highly favored AFROnerdist hosts as they wax about the following topics: the highly-anticipated Disney plus Ms. Marvel trailer dropped this week and we have our thoughts:

As The Batman continues to excel at the box office, more stories are coming out showing pop culture commentators spewing racist potshots at some of the alleged racebending and minority presence exhibited in the film:

Dburt has some thoughts concerning discourse or debates that begin with speakers beginning their arguments with "I feel"  as opposed to "I think."  What's the difference? Let's discuss; New Zealand filmmaker, Jane Campion (Power of the Dog), while accepting her 2022 Best Director win at the Critics Choice Awards made some disparaging remarks toward tennis icons, Venus and Serena Williams calling into question White feminism; Can we see the return of Kurt Russel as Snake Plisskin from the cult classic, Escape from New York in the near future?; actor, Nicolas Cage portraying a caricature of himself in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, maybe the comeback we've been looking for; What is American comic book/superhero culture like in Japan or is it nonexistent due to the local fauna of Manga and Anime?; if time permits we will address some topics that were "leftover" from Sunday's Grindhouse show and lastly, our thoughts about actress Zendaya's dad asserting that Black fathers who are largely responsible for their children's success are oftentimes overlooked, disrespected, or ignored by mainstream media.

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

Ok, citizens, let's get right black to it!  Listen to a new installment of Afronerd Radio's The Grindhouse, airing each and every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  The topics du jour this week are as follows:  Dburt, forever working on "cp" time, tripped over an interesting Image comic, Farmhand, which apparently will also receive the cinematic translation treatment; we may discuss a bit more about the problematic "bank robbery suspect" profiling controversy centered around acclaimed filmmaker, Ryan Coogler; Netflix continues to substantiate being the headquarters for anime product with the recent release of Kotaro Lives Alone;

It always starts with a thought coupled with one's imagination, huh?  A Space.com article highlights the prospect of space travel, the USS Enterprise, and the creation of a warp engine inching toward reality;  oh and then we absolutely must discuss the "fresh off-the-presses" release of Amazon Prime's S3 trailer for The Boys:

Captain Carter #1 just hit the comic rack this week; Image is taking another crack at the insect-based heroine (originally created by CB artist, Mario Gully); has President Biden's recent executive order helped legitimize cryptocurrency in the wake of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict? more on Milestone Media's new initiative to bolster CB industry access for minority creatives; how exactly did nerd culture survive during the pandemic.....let us discuss.

Oh....will we see the Flash appear in a Marvel movie?  You never know...at least according to Youtuber, ComicCast:

And it's not unprecedented in Marvel/DC canon:

From DC's Doomsday Clock limited series

And when "Buried Alien" (assumed to be Barry Allen) was lost/thought for dead post Crisis...hmm.

One of our own, former cohost, Claire Lanay, stars in the highly-anticipated Ava Duvernay helmed dystopic HBO Max streaming show, DMZ, based on the same eponymous DC graphic novel series:

And if there weren't enough trailers premiering this week, we absolutely must discuss the Disney plus, Obi-Wan Kenobi  preview that hit the cyber-webs a few hours ago:

And where is The Batman?....spoiler discussion that is; it looks like the Jeffrey Wright/Jim Gordon Gotham PD series for HBO Max has been canceled; there's talk of Will Smith rebooting the I am Legend franchise but this time with the inclusion of Michael B. Jordan; thoughts about the Crown Act bill which addresses African-American hairstyle discrimination at the workplace;  Picard the second season, on Paramount plus; Lastly, our impression of the Amazon animated anthology series, The Boys: Diabolical debuted last week.

Finally....The Batman!; The Boys: Diabolical; Panther's Dora Milaje; NFL's HBCU Problem; Picard S2; I Am Legend Sequel?; Tucker Carlson on Black IQ; Alien, Predator & Hulu; Kanye's Disturbing New Music Vid-The Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

Salutations with a side order of crumpets and cornbread to our ever loyal listenership! It's time for another sonic excursion through the Blerd universe courtesy of Afronerd Radio's The Grindhouse, airing each and every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Listen to your vengeful Gotham residing AFROnerdists hosts unpack the following blerd related issues:  the long-awaited and highly-anticipated The Batman film finally hit theaters this weekend and we have our thoughts and first impressions; How does it stand up against preceding iterations of the "Caped Crusader?" And does it relate to other DC IPs going forward?; Amazon Prime's The Boys franchise continues to worldbuild via animation with a new series entitled, The Boys: Diabolical;

A recent Comic Book Resources piece posits that Wakanda's Dahomey female tribe inspired Dora Milaje are the Black Panther's greatest assest; controversy ensues when only four players (from HBCUs) out of 324 were invited from the influential NFL combine;  Paramount Plus' Picard series (2nd season) started back up; Will Smith's I am Legend film purportedly will get a sequel co-starring Michael B. Jordan;  Fox News conservative talking head, Tucker Carlson had some racially questionable thoughts about Supreme Court jurist nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson and her past academic performance (funny...he never had similar concerns for past SCOTUS nominees):

Will the Hulu streaming versions of Alien and Predator resurrect those IPs from past failures on the big screen?  And what is the deal with Kanye West's latest song/video, "Easy?"  Should someone check on actor and comedian, Pete Davidson since the video appears to threaten his life?  Is this going too far with merging real life and alleged art?

The (Black) Man Who Fell to Earth Remake; More Christopher Priest on Vampirella CB Series; Rise of Racist Media Coverage on Ukraine (& Are Blacks Cursed?) The Batman Reviews are Coming In; Black vs White TikTok $; Mackie's Twisted Metal: Mid Week in Review Airs WED, 8pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

Let's get into it!  And those infamous time constraints are at play as always folks! Welcome to Wednesday's Mid Week in Review airing tonight at 8 p.m. eastern, courtesy of the Afronerd Radio "machine" and on the BTalk 100 internet broadcasting platform.   Listen to your "arc reactor" powered AFROnerdist hosts as they dissect the following topics:  our thoughts about  the recently released Showtime trailer for the remake of the cult sci-fi classic, The Man Who Fell to Earth:

It appears that legendary writer, Christopher Priest is getting additional Vampirella time with the announcement of another comic book series; as predicted on last Sunday's Grindhouse, mainstream media is making it clear about which race/phenotype is favored concerning the current Russo-Ukraine conflict; and based on the aforementioned global racial animus, Dburt ponders if Blacks are "cursed";

The crew has yet to see the latest superhero film to hit theaters, The Batman, but some reviews are eeking through;  the difference between Black and White TikTok creators goes beyond skin deep...(hint-Where's the money!); And lastly, notable actor, "The Falcon" (or shall we say Captain America) himself, Anthony Mackie has been tapped to star in the next VG to film IP, Twisted Metal.

Oh...and actress, Zoe Kravitz has some interesting thoughts about her character's (Catwoman/Selina Kyle) sexuality versus DC canon (or is there really a conflict?).
