Check out the latest musings from your AFROnerdist broadcasters as they unravel this (mid) week's current issues: regrettably (and swiftly) we will provide our impressions of the first of three scheduled presidential debates between the incumbent, Donald Trump and former VP, Joe Biden (quick take? exhausting); the premiere of season 4 for FX' Fargo starring Chris Rock took place this past weekend and again we have opinions; the Blumhouse produced trailer for The Craft: Legacy, an update to its 90s horror classic predecessor , The Craft just hit the cyberwebs:

Adult Swim has officially pulled select episodes of The Boondocks (the reboot soon to appear on HBO Max) and Aqua Teen Hunger Force due to cultural sensitivities: addressing some issues we left on kitchen table from this past Sunday's Grindhouse show;  Dburt finally got around to checking out Netflix' Enola Holmes; the Bleeding Cool website highlights just how 2021 could introduce a black Batman concept using a defund Batman (police in the real world) analogy....intriguing;  more info is coming out about the forthcoming Hawkeye Disney plus series; Comic Book Movie reports that actor, Takehiro Hira may be portraying a new villain for the upcoming Snake Eyes spinoff film from the G.I. Joe franchise;  after witnessing Japan's real life Gundam robot move, we have to ask-"which country is better at making fantasy a reality when it comes to their respective takes on pop culture-Japan or the United States?

Did we ever discuss Netflix' Cuties debacle?  The Mary Sue waxes about the film and the backlash over "policing girlhood." ; And lastly, if time permits, The Atlantablackstar highlights two stories of racial stereotyping and "swatting".....it never stops.  Call in LIVE at 508-645-0100.

Oh...and Dburt has some thoughts about the premise or themes of certain Anime/Manga properties (like Hunter X Hunter)-perseverance and honor are everything.

Greetings, to our faithful listenership,  Listen to the latest live broadcast episode of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review (MWIR) airing this Wednesday, 8pm at BTalk 100.  Join your favored AFROnerdist hosts as they wax about these ensuing topics: basketball legend, Michael Jordan enters into the world of stock car racing by forming a NASCAR team with racer Denny Hamlin and hiring Bubba Wallace as their driver; a more fleshed out Wandavision Disney plus trailer made its debut during this past weekend's virtual Emmys presentation; and what about the trailer's House of M allusions?

Microsoft buys Bethesda Softworks (makers of Doom, Fallout. Quake) for reportedly $7.5B for their X-Box platform; notable journalist/film producer, Peter Bart (Fun with Dick and Jane, Revenge of the Nerds franchise) posits that the current pandemic lull in Hollywood product might be the catalyst for a filmmaking "reinvention" similar to the period in the late 60s and early 70s; and just when Dburt was pontificating about pop culture's failure to produce a black "Bond archetype," comic creator Brian Stelfreeze answers the call with his successful Kickstarter project, Thomas River;

Where Did The Summer Go? Whelp We DO Know It's Grindhouse Time! This SUN 6pm EST-Discussing TikTok Table Reads; Notorious RBG Passes; She-Hulk Casting News; Chris Rock Interview; DC Universe & More

Let's get straight to the crux of the matter, shall we?  Welcome to the umpteenth edition of Afronerd Radio's The Grindhouse broadcast airing every Sunday at 6pm eastern.  Join our regular cavalcade of AFROnerdists as they discuss the following data: social media received an interesting quarantine entertainment treat by way of a table read for charity (actor, Sean Penn's CORE-Community Organized Relief Effort). What was the script reenactment?  One of Penn's most memorable films, Fast Times at Ridgemont High:

Iconic Supreme Court jurist, the Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg passes at the age of 87 and the nation reels for a number of reasons beyond the immediacy of the loss;  it looks like Marvel finally has finally found their She-Hulk as it was just announced that the phenomenal Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) was cast to portray the superhero in the forthcoming Disney plus streaming series;  as legendary comedian, Chris Rock gears up for the 4th season of Fargo, we delve into some of his musings which were showcased in a recent NY Times piece; Oh and our thoughts about Rock waxing about the lost potential for a black "Ocean's Eleven" film that was torpedoed for something more palatable; as expected, DC Universe will just be a digital reserve for their comic archive as their streaming shows will be moved to HBO Max;  more Marvel news, the Hollywood Reporter highlights the Muslim centered directing team that will bring another highly anticipated Disney plus series to life, Ms. Marvel;  and just when we found out the cost of the upcoming PS5 video gaming console ($399 to $499, tentatively), Sony sweetens the pot with more gameplay from their Miles Morales single player game developed by Insomniac Games:

Here's a thought, Halle Berry's "Jinx" character could have (and should have) gotten a James Bond spinoff.  Which gives further credence to Dburt's assertion that there is room for a Black MI6 Bond archetype....hell, what about Cleopatra Jones

And lastly, speaking of the Bond universe.....rumor has it that Venom/Bane actor, Tom Hardy might be up to replacing Daniel Craig for future installments.  Call in LIVE at 508-645-0100.

Oh and what about Netflix' Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous new animated series?

"You took She-Hulk out of the equation, Stark.  And do you know what that's left you with? Jennifer Walters: one of the best lawyers on the east coast!"-Jennifer Walters, ESQ (She-Hulk).

Is it The Mid Week in Review (MWIR) Already? WED @8pm EST? Topix? Cardi v. Candace?; Venture Bros Cancelled? More Mulan Controversy; Arts Might Not Return?

We're back at again!  Listen to a new freshly baked edition of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review (MWIR) broadcast airing this Wednesday at 8pm eastern.  Join your favorite (or is it only) AFROnerdist hosts as they pontificate on the following issues:  one of crew's favorite animated series, The Venture Brothers gets cancelled after 17 years (and 7 seasons) and fellow fans are ready to go to war (#SaveVentureBros! is already afoot); just for the sake of nonsense, a digital/verbal battle of epic proportions took place on (black) Twitter this past weekend between popular WAP rap artist, Cardi B. and conservative political pundit, Candace Owen and our culture was the loser; Disney's Mulan, which was released a few days ago continues to spark controversy not only with actress, Liu Yifei (who portrays the titular character) but also the film's location (near active concentration camps?); according to the Associated Press, famed composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber (The Phantom of the Opera) posits that the arts may be "at the point of no return" if UK lawmakers don't set a date to reopen theaters soon;  archaeologists in Egypt have discovered 13 coffins believed to be over 2500 years old with more purported findings to come;

popular Afro-Latinx/blerd actress, Rosario Dawson lends her voice to Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez' La Borinquena superhero character for a "get out and vote" motion comic campaign (but Dburt asks-"why not go full throttle and get a cartoon project up and running?"); Did anyone catch the great Willem DaFoe's screen test as the Joker?  Talk about someone who looks the part...just sayin':

Football great/activist, Colin Kaepernick returns to gameplay (sorta...ahem, his likeness) via Madden Sports and even virtually, he's still controversial; And lastly, our thoughts about the rave reviews for Emmy/Oscar winning actress, Regina King's directorial debut, One Night in Miami which details the real life gathering of  black icons, Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Jim Brown and Sam Cooke.  Call in LIVE at 508-645-0100.

Did we speak about screenwriter, John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) writing a black Batman arc or his new comic, The Other History of the DC Universe highlighting the perspective of DC heroes from marginalized groups? And lastly, is Tenet still destined for success during a pandemic with its 100 million dollar box office?  Call in LIVE at 508-645-0100.

Ok..did the Afronerd Radio team miss a memo, or is the African Goddess and X-Man mutant, now being depicted (in Marvel Future Fight rpg) as a Charlize Theron clone?  Why does this keep happening?
