Where Was Wakanda During Slavery? (Our Theories); Ma'Khia Bryant Killing; Justice Society: WW2; Endgame's 2 YR Anniversary; Full Yasuke Trailer; Demon Slayer; Marvel @NetherRealm? Mid Week in Review Airs WED 8pm EST

Greetings, once again to our growing (and loyal) listenership.  Pull up a seat and sip your vanilla smoothie while you check out a new episode of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review broadcast-airing every Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  The topics up for grabs this week are: it's a question that has really bounced around since the Black Panther made his debut in 1966.  This question also was alluded to in the 2018 film, The Black Panther.....why exactly did the fictional Wakanda choose noninvolvement during the Transatlantic Slave Trade?  Or why did they choose not to interfere when the European powers carved up and colonized the continent of Africa?  Your local AFROnerdist host will ponder their theories and will the question ever be fully explored in print or cinema?; another premature death of a Black teen and of course, it's not without controversy.  Just what happened in the Ma'Khia Bryant police killing?  Was this a justified killing? And was it preventable?  Our thoughts.....; the highly-anticipated DC animated film, Justice Society: World War II was just released on Tuesday and we'll give you our first impressions;

Time is moving like (black) Wally West jogging through Central Park in a 1975 time loop...folks are commenting on what is the 2-year anniversary for the release of the billion-dollar blockbuster MCU film, Avengers: Endgame;  the full trailer for Netflix' Yasuke hit the cyberwebs:

Demon Slayer reportedly slayed at the box office this past weekend; lastly, in gaming news, it appears that the longstanding VG developer, NetherRealm Studios, who are known for creating DC's Injustice and Mortal Kombat franchises, is purportedly working on a new Marvel fighting game.  Does that mean a single game or cross-pollination with all of your favorite characters?  And where does that leave Capcom?

Ok folks, let's just jump into the fray!  Check out our latest episode of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse broadcast-airing this Sunday at 6 p. m. eastern on the BTalk 100 network.  Your esteemed AFROnerdist hosts will bring their unique analysis to the following topics:  almost like clockwork during these COVID-19 times, another Black hip hop legend passes in an untimely manner-Humpty Hump himself, Shock G dies at 57

an interesting article from the New York Times highlights the recent (and somewhat expansive) spate of Black themes and characters receiving mainstream exposure in the sci-fi, fantasy, and geek genre space; another NYT piece from celebrated educator and graphic novelist, Dr. Eve Ewing, details her triumphs and travails as a Black female writer in a mostly white and protective comic nerd landscape; longtime friend of the "steam engine," filmmaker, Hilton Ruiz stops by to discuss his new project, Klans Rules.....think Klansmen and Black vampires....nuff said;

A topic we failed to address during our last  Mid Week in Review broadcast, the new "wokeness" agenda many elite prep schools are enacting into their curriculum is upsetting some parents; Is it about education or indoctrination?;   according to TheMarySue.com, a new fan-funded campaign is afoot demanding that Marvel revise the Ironman character a la #RestoretheSnyderverse with Los Angeles billboard stating-#BringBackTonyStarkToLife......we're off to the races, people!; our thoughts about the HBO Max/theatrical release of Mortal Kombat; after the final episode of S1 of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, now we're hearing that a mainstream MCU Captain America 4 release is being produced (which may be separate from a Chris Evans MCU film....hmm).

And then there's the new teaser trailer for Marvel's highly anticipated Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings film-

Revisiting our previous discussion regarding the notion of "black pain porn" cinema with the critically acclaimed Netflix short, Two Distant Strangers; Lastly, our thoughts about the 1700 word rant written by the father of a student attending an elite NYC prep school over its new racial doctrine that he believes is tantamount to brainwashing.

Oh and then there's more Netflix goodies....the Chinese 3D animated film, New Gods: Nezhu Reborn, and the completely engaging S2 trailer for LOVE DEATH + ROBOTS that just hit the cyberwebs:

90s Hip Hop Staple, Black Rob Passes; Best "Black" Avengers Team; Will Smith Pulls Out of GA-Ryan Coogler Stays; Falcon & WS Reveal S1E5; Amazing Fantasy #1; Flash Movie Filming & Godzilla Vs is @400M-Grindhouse Airs 6pm EST

The Afronerd Radio "steam engine"  is HERE....after starting from the bottom!  Check out the latest episode of The Grindhouse airing this Sunday at 6 p. m. eastern on the BTalk 100 platform.  Your "Astonishing" AFROnerdist hosts will be covering the following topics:  yet another tragic tale of a legendary Black hip hop performer passing in an untimely fashion, Robert "Black Rob" Ross succumbs to kidney disease at 51; hat tip goes to stalwart Afronerd Radio supporter,  Marquelon Sigler for his question-"Which Marvel comic would you reboot (Mighty Avengers, The Ultimates, The Crew or The Black Panther & The Crew) and the reason why?

In the wake of Georgia's (and other states as well) voting laws being challenged with credible assertions of voter suppression-major corporations and active movie projects are threatening to take their business elsewhere.  Case in point- superstar actor, Will Smith is purporting to stop production of his highly anticipated Emancipation movie (filming in GA), and conversely, director, Ryan Coogler is allegedly not following suit with moving his Black Panther 2 film;  is Disney+ working on a Wolverine anthology series?  our impressions of the penultimate episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, including comedic actor, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss' inclusion into the MCU (Madame Hydra?); and what about writer, Ed Brubaker's admission during Kevin Smith's podcast that he doesn't receive any residuals for actually creating the Winter Soldier, despite the character's appearance in multi-million (even billion) dollar franchises;  Amazing Fantasy returns with a new run; finally....Ezra Miller's Flash film has allegedly commenced filming; Lastly, perhaps the box office success of Godzilla vs. Kong (400M globally) might prove that the theater industry has some life left after all.

Oh and we  forgot to talk about Prince's 2010 posthumous release, Welcome 2 America, and the recent 60 minutes coverage of the forthcoming album:

Chaos in Brooklyn Center, MN; BLM Accused of Grifting?; Maybe Kyrie is Right About The N-Word; Live-Action Gundam @Netflix; Painkiller @CW; ArcLight & Pacific Theaters Shutdown; Mid Week in Review Airs WED 8pm EST

Greetings to our loyal listenership!  Try your best to schedule in three hours this Wednesday for another fact-finding mission dubbed Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review-airing on Btalk 100 at 8 p.m. eastern.  Join your highly favored AFROnerdist hosts as they unravel the latest "Scooby-Doo" mysteries this week: our thoughts about another untimely young Black male death-this time it's Daunte Wright dying at the hands of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota police; some folks are giving the Black Lives Matter movement the "side-eye" treatment based on recent media reports of several expensive real estate purchases by BLM leaders;  noted Brooklyn Nets basketball player, Kyrie Irving got into a bit of a dust-up when an opposing Black player from the LA Lakers called him the "n-word," much to his chagrin. The internal/external debate of the n-word's usage continues;  Legendary Pictures is purportedly working on a live-action film version of the mecha anime franchise, Gundam for Netflix

More details are arising from the planned Black Lightning CW spinoff series centered around the Painkiller character, and speaking about Black Lightning....what went wrong with the series' demise int the fourth year?; per usual, we will address some issues that were left on the kitchen table from Sunday's Grindhouse show; lastly, another casualty of the pandemic wars is being reported-18 Arclight and Pacific theaters are closing shop and it again, places focus on the precarious viability of the movie theater industry.

Oh and coming in under the wire and hot off the presses, some people (ok, a BBC-UK TV executive) think that Idris Elba's popular Luther character is unauthentically Black.....here we go.

Rap Icon, DMX Passes; New Prince Music; Amazon Prime's THEM & Invincible S1E5; Manhattan Beach, CA="THEM" In Real Time?; Music is Addictive?; Kung Fu TV W/Actual Asian Actors?-The Grindhouse Airs SUN, 6pm EST

Hey, Folks! We're Black at it again! Check out the latest episode of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse broadcast airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Join your highly favored and capable AFROnerdist hosts as they extrapolate the following data:  we were hoping for a miracle but, regrettably, iconic 90s hip hop icon, Earl "DMX" Simmons passes at 50; We will attempt to discuss the rap legend's career trajectory, fall from grace and tie his story to the overall landscape of Black men's health in the 21st century; another welcomed post mortem album release from Prince was announced and is slated to premiere on 60 Minutes, no less; our impressions of more Amazon Prime products-Little Marvin and Lena Waithe's THEM and S1E5 Invincible (Robert Kirkman);

Yet another story we were supposed to cover a few shows ago but in the wake of Amazon's THEM, the real-life version is just as disconcerting a la Manhattan Beach's original Black owners;  recent studies indicate that music can be as addictive as any narcotic....I wonder how the oftentimes problematic and neo-minstrel doggerel of corporate hip hop factors in; thoughts about the latest episode of Disney+'s The Falcon and The Winter Soldier; lastly, CW's Kung Fu reboot must be applauded on one level for finally having actual Asian actors matching up with the ethnicities of their respective characters:

A recent Kotaku.com piece posits that the digital card game, Magic: The Gathering with its array of POC fantasy characters and storylines, is a welcome respite from more recent Black fantasy fare that places focus on #ADOS victimization;  and then there's the new Loki trailer from Disney+

Can A.I. reproduce or mimic new songs from deceased musicians?  Well, based on recent songs that are hitting the net, a prospective audience is about to find out; More African-American greats continue to leave our mortal plane-FL Congressman, Alcee Hastings passes at 84;  lastly, Neuralink co-founder, Max Hodak is prophesizing that a real-life Jurassic Park is in our future....
