in '70 DC Asked Readers About Black Stories; Ice Cube Refuses Vax; Black Horror @Halloween; Facebook is now Meta?; Iron Fist (Danny Rand vers.) No More?; SNL's Garrett Morris; Buzz Lightyear vs Frozone-The Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

Happy Halloween, loyal AFROnerdists!  While tending to visiting trick-or-treaters, check out the latest installment of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse airing this Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on the BTalk 100 internet broadcasting platform.  The topics du jour are:  an interesting Bleeding Cool piece highlighting a 1970 DC readers survey posing questions concerning comic book purchase frequency, titles of interest, and stories about Black people.  Could this be considered first or second-wave wokeism?; legendary West Coast rapper/filmmaker/mogul, Ice Cube trends on Twitter for turning down a reported 9M dollar payday for a film co-starring comedic actor, Jack Black due to COVID-19 vaccination requirements; in deference to the Halloween celebration, perhaps it's time to take a look back (and forward) at Black Horror as a budding and financially competitive film genre:

And in the wake of  public safety allegations being levied against tech giant, Facebook, the social media juggernaut is now launching a VR rebrand entitled, "Meta." The team will discuss the who, what and why of the impending Metaverse;  well for Marvel fans and some canon soothsayers, it appears that the "Tarzanification" of the Iron Fist IP may be addressed with the white Danny Rand relinquishing the cowl to a character of Asian descent;

Legendary SNL comedian, Garrett Morris (Martin, Jamie Foxx Show, 2 Broke Girls) is ready for his closeup, courtesy of a recent article in the Hollywood Reporter;  and lastly, so the Pixar spinoff franchising continues with the release of the Lightyear trailer:

And yet Dburt asks when will Samuel L. Jackson's "Frozone" universe get the same spinoff treatment?

Howdy, folks! Let's jump right to it, shall we?  Listen to the new installment of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review broadcast-airing every Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Check out the musings of your "friendly neighborhood" AFROnerdist hosts deciphering this (mid) week chock full of the following topics:  is it true that black actress, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, featured in Warner-Media's Dune was omitted from the film's poster in China? Or is there an exaggeration or misinformation on the part of social media sites?; say it ain't so!  Is former Heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson really going to consider an exhibition fight against one of the Paul brothers from Youtube fame?;  spoiler-free reviews are coming in for Marvel's highly anticipated Eternals film and some are asserting that it's "OK" to "meh"....let's discuss; noted actor, Michael B. Jordan's HBO Max "Black Superman" project gets closer to reality with the announcement that two writers are now attached to the project; comedy legend, Dave Chappelle remains steadfast with the opinions he espoused during his Closer special at Netflix but he will meet with the Trans community with certain conditions:

The Millarworld-Netflix union continues with the expected release of his Magic Order comic to streaming TV series translation in the future;  Are NYC UPS trucks showing love for Disney's Mandalorian series?  Apparently so:

And if time permits, we will address some topics we failed to cover during Sunday's Grindhouse show.

Nubia's CB Trans Revelation; Shooting Accident on Alec Baldwin Film Set; Revisiting Outcasts ('68) TV Series; Yale's Portrait of Slavery; Adam Warlock; Tokyo Revengers; Netflix' Night Teeth & More-Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

Salutations, cornbread, and crumpets, to our longtime Afronerd Radio supporters!  It's that time AGAIN! Check out the latest waxings from a new installment of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse broadcast-airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern, courtesy of the BTalk 100 cyber-radio platform.  Join your AFROnerdist hosts as they traverse this week's issue laden terrain with the following topics: unbeknownst to many readers of DC's premiere issue of the Nubia and The Amazons comic, there's a new Amazon on the block and she is being touted as the first "Trans-Amazon" being introduced into Wonder Woman canon.  We have our thoughts; it appears every one to two decades there is a fatal and oftentimes, accidental shooting on a movie set.  This time such a tragedy occurred during the filming of actor, Alec Baldwin's latest Netflix film, Rust, resulting in the death of budding filmmaker, Halyna Hutchins; hat tip to frequent guest and Afronerd Radio supporter, Sergio Mims for hipping us to a racially groundbreaking one season TV Western called The Outcasts. Dburt checked out two episodes and he gives his impressions:

We must get to a story that we have kept on the back burner for a few shows.  The crew delves into a fascinating story concerning a Yale University portrait that may seem innocuous but it clearly is not.  Researchers are trying to determine the identity of an enslaved African child depicted in the aforementioned picture that also contains many of Yale's founders.

And if time permits, we will also address Marvel's Adam Warlock casting choice, Dburt's discovery of the Tokyo Revengers anime series, Milestone Media may be crafting its own Justice League analogue; Screenrant.com asserts that there is one thing that the MCU has failed to translate from comic to live-action, and a new Netflix Vampire flick entitled Night Teeth.

Greeting, loyal AFROnerdists! Check out the latest installment of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review broadcast airing this Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on the BTalk 100 internet radio platform.  Listen to the meanderings of your friendly neighborhood AFROnerdist hosts as they wax about the following subjects:  much like clockwork, another one of our Black icons has left the mortal plane, 4-star general and former Secretary of State, Colin Powell passes from COVID-19 at the age of 84; picking up where we left off from our Sunday Grindhouse show including revelations from  this past weekend's DC FanDome Warner Media pop culture event; the long-awaited DC animated VG translation movie, Injustice, hit the cyberwebs yesterday and we have our impressions:

Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman's Black sister, Nubia finally gets her closeup in a new comic entitled, Nubia and the Amazons:

noted anime voice actor, Chris Ayres (Dragon Ball Z, Black Butler, Macross) passes from COPD at 56; well we spoke in-depth during the Grindhouse broadcast about our predictions for the hip hop VERZUZ matchup between legends, Big Daddy Kane and Krs-One and now we have our post-contest thoughts:

Lastly, a more fully fleshed-out Cowboy Bebop trailer is released..... and it certainly channels the original anime even more so.  We have our thoughts:

Squid Game; DC FanDome Reveals-(Batman, Black Adam & Naomi Trailers, Milestone Media Info, Young Justice, McFarlane/DC Toys;) Defending Jack Kirby (as The Eternals Hits Theaters); Needle In a Timestack & More-Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

Let's make it happen, fellow AFROnerdists!  Pull up a seat and sip a mint julip as you listen to the latest musings of Afronerd Radio's The Grindhouse broadcast, airing this, and every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100. Join your favorite arachno-irradiated AFROnerdist hosts as they "chop it up" about the following pulp/pop topics: Dburt finally got around to viewing the heavily touted Netflix series from South Korea, The Squid Game. Is all the hype warranted?  We'll discuss; And right after last week's NYCC '21 (New York Comic Con), the Warner Media virtual version, DC FanDome premiered this weekend.  We will wax about the multitude of upcoming projects (The Batman, The Flash, Black Adam, the Shazam sequel, Young Justice, video games based on the bat-family and Suicide Squad, etc) highlighted during Saturday's event;

Dburt happened to notice that the iconic comic creator, Jack "King" Kirby was trending on Twitter but not in a good way.  It ended being a cyber fight between supporters and detractors of the late creative's work, especially since it was revealed that the forthcoming Eternals Marvel film will channel from Kirby's vision; it would be an understatement asserting that graphic novelist/screenwriter, John Ridley is on a roll.  Not only is he currently helming the I am Batman and the new Black Panther comic runs but he is also directing a Black time travel story entitled, Needle In a Timestack, courtesy of Lionsgate Films. Lastly, we will highlight a budding mystery involving Yale University and a portrait of the college's founder, Elihu Yale, and an enslaved child. It's a further reminder that many of America's most exclusive and esteemed educational institutions were founded on chattel slavery.  But specifically, relating to this case....who was the child?

Black Panther Legends #1; Supes' (Jr.) Coming Out Party; Jon Gruden Controversy; Adam Warlock News; Big Daddy Kane & KRS-1 on Verzuz; More Chappelle "Closer" Fallout; Ridley Scott on Alien TV & More Mid Week in Review Airs WED 8pm

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

There's a lot to discuss and very little time to do it, citizens!  Listen to a new installment from Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review show airing every Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Your technologically (Wakandan) advanced AFROnerdist hosts will wax about the following (mid) weekly subject matter:  a new comic just hit the scene this week, entitled Black Panther: Legends, and it appears to shed some light on T'Challa's youth and backstory.  Nevertheless, we will give you our impressions;  in more comic book news, another hero, this time the scion of Clark Kent is "coming out" as LGBTQ and, as expected, the announcement has led to a great deal of controversy-even stern words from Superman, himself, Dean Cain;

Our thoughts about former Raiders coach, Jon Gruden's decades-old emails showcasing racist, homophobic and misogynistic remarks done on a corporate level.  He has since been ousted but is this just par for the course?; Marvel "Cosmic" moves one step forward with the recent announcement that actor, Will Poulter (Detroit, The Revenant), is slated to portray the long-waited Adam Warlock in the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie; and something that is definitely worthy of analysis, hip hop legends, Big Daddy Kane and KRS-1 will be the next set of music icons to do a "faceoff" in the next Verzuz battle; More fallout from Netflix' Dave Chappelle special.  Netflix continues to support Chappelle, despite allegations of his special being labeled "transphobic." Now Netflix trans employees are purportedly staging a walkout protesting the special; legendary director, Ridley Scott isn't thinking highly of the proposed Alien TV series; Lastly, our thoughts about Captain Kirk aka William Shatner making history by becoming the oldest person to travel into space

Oh and then there's the new Blumhouse trailer for The Black Phone....whoa.  And Dburt definitely has to take a look at Squid Game on Netflix (beating Bridgerton.....for that distinction, alone)

Daryll B's NYCC (Friday) Review; Trailers for Star Trek: Discovery S4, The 355 & Psych 3; Photon, Ten Rings Spinoffs @Disney+?; The What If S1 Finale & S2 Predictions;

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

It's New York Comic-Con weekend, citizens!  Let's get to it!  Listen to a new episode of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse, airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Tune in to your gamma-irradiated AFROnerdist hosts, Dburt and the "Uncanny" Daryll B. as they wax about the following blerd-centric phenomena:  our own Daryll B., braved post-pandemic NYC, to check out the Friday edition of NYCC '21 and Dburt and the listenership can't wait to find out what he learned; a whole cadre of trailers hit the cyberwebs this past weekend-S4 of Star Trek: Discovery; The 355 and fan favorite, Psych 3; are they handing out Disney+ shows like free snacks at the mall food court nowadays?  Purportedly, Photon/Spectrum (aka Black Captain Marvel) and the Shang-Chi "Ten Rings" universe are getting streaming shows;

We never did get a chance to discuss the season finale of this past Wednesday's What...If?;  And what to expect for S2 of What...If?; Dburt braved the theater experience once again (baby step, folks!) and checked out the reported last James Bond film (with Daniel Craig), No Time to Die and he has his thoughts; and speaking of the Bond mythos, the folks at The Root just can't bear to think that a new iteration of Bond can't work unless noted Black British actor, Idris Elba takes up the 007 mantle (Dburt roles his eyes per usual).

Facebook Outed?; TV & Film Production Workers Are Striking; Kino Cult Streaming Service; Pandora Papers; Jerry Craft Book Visit Canceled Over CRT?; Dave Chappelle's The Closer; What... If? Season Finale-Mid Week in Review Airs WED, 8pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

Let's go, folks!   Check out the latest episode of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review show airing every Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Listen to your cosmic-irradiated AFROnerdist hosts deliberate on the following topics:  well, the big news this week centers on social media/tech giant, Facebook, being brought to task by whistleblower Frances Haugen, testifying before Congress. Haugen, a former data scientist with Facebook alleged that the company harms children and foments political discord for the sake of profit:

And just when Facebook is going through its issues, the IATSE International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees) voted to approve strike authorization, giving the union president the ability to halt TV and film production nationwide;  and yet there's another streaming platform to distract Dburt's attention-Kino Lorber, Inc, the film distribution company, is now branching into streaming but specific to cult movies and its free.; and in more tech meets greed news, the Pandora Papers were leaked providing further evidence that the wealthy hide money and the Illuminati is very real.  Oh and that no one will probably go to jail because it's legal to evade taxes when one is in a certain "tax bracket" (there isn't a bracket, apparently);

Noted children's book illustrator and cartoonist, Jerry Craft got caught up in a CRT (Critical Race Theory) controversy unbeknownst to the author himself pertaining to his latest books, New Kid and Class ActDave Chappelle's new comedy special is available on Netflix and Dburt has some thoughts; And lastly, our final analyses regarding the close of S1 for Disney+'s What.....if? series.

Don't worry citizens, The Grindhouse returns today and it's going to be alright!   Welcome to the umpteenth edition of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse, airing this Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on the BTalk 100 internet broadcasting platform.  Listen to your highly-favored AFROnerdist hosts unpack their thoughts concerning the following topics:  the return of Milestone Media forges ahead with the latest issue of Reginal Hudlin's Icon & Rocket: Season One.  And this issue answers the question, what would happen if a Black ubermensch decided to eradicate crime on a global scale?  The crew shares their thoughts...; Sony's Venom 2 debuted this weekend and it appears that it's off to a great start considering the purported 90M post-pandemic box office takedown;  the fan-favorite defunct Marvel Netflix series, Daredevil, appears to be gearing up for a revival with much of the same cast still at play but will the gritty show be a correct fit for the family-friendly Disney+ streaming channel?: we finally get a chance to discuss some the upcoming video games featuring prominent black male and female protagonists/antagonists like Vampire: The Masquerade and Deathloop:

Because it is news...let's banter about The R. Kelly tragedy...briefly (it is what it is); and then there's sports news. instead of adults, now we have children spewing racist taunts at Black soccer players; and what about that recent Brandon Brown NASCAR win that turned into an anti-President Joe Biden event?  I thought politics wasn't supposed to be a part of sports?  Black Panther returns with a new #1 issue and scribe, noted screenwriter, John Ridley:

And as excited as Dburt is to see someone of Ridley's status writing this new iteration of Panther, he does beg to ask, when will marvel employ an African (distinct from FBA) writer to craft a Wakandan tale?  And lastly, Dburt tripped over Ms. Bohemian Soul's "HGTV" style YouTube tiny home channel and, he "begs to ask AGAIN"...shouldn't we have our own Black culture home living universe and/or presence?
