Post Turkey Day Episode @TheGrindhouse! Airing SUN, 6pm EST: Tyson vs Jones; The Undercards (uh...); David Prowse Passes; #SaveDaredevil trends; Thoughts About Black Twitter & Black America; Rosario's Mandalorian

Hopefully, our listeners have had their fill of turkey, gravy and cranberry sauce for the last couple of days! So in an effort to address those unwanted extra pounds, why not listen to Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse while grinding it out on your peloton? Our latest sonic installment starts at 6pm eastern and we will be highlighting the following issues:  the Clash of the Titans boxing match literally took place last night at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles between "Iron" Mike Tyson and  Roy "Superman/Captain Hook" Jones, Jr. along with some notable undercard battles; rapper, Snoop Dogg's commentary was worth the price of admission; longtime strongman and actor, David Prowse (Star Wars franchise) passes at the age of 85; Dburt has some thoughts about the combination of Prowse's physicality (6'6" 266lbs) and legendary actor, James Earl Jones' unmistakable voice.....and what they were paid.

It looks like fans (on the Marvel side) are trying to pull a "Snyder Cut" with their #SaveDaredevil  petition to get Disney to bring back the cast from the Netflix' series for a Disney plus (Hulu, maybe) reboot;  oh and there was still stuffing left on the table from Wednesday's Grindhouse broadcast ; NYC actress, Rosario Dawson looks the spitting image of the animated character of Ahsoka Tano (Star Wars: the Clone Wars) now translated for live action in Disney plus' Mandalorian series;

passing thoughts about screenwriter, John Ridley's Other History of the DC Universe;  did the apparel brand, Burt's Bees' apology for showing a black single mother with her children among intact white families in their recent ad campaign just reveal the tip of the iceberg as to the damage caused by faulty media campaigns' depictions of black life?

Lastly, Dburt has some musings regarding the popularity of Black Twitter, the Clubhouse app's IPO and Black America as a "concept." Call us LIVE at 508-645-0100. AFTER CLICKING ON THE HIGHLIGHTED LINK, GO DIRECTLY TO AFRONERD RADIO!!!

Pre Turkey Day Mid Week Show Airs 8pm EST @BTalk 100; Issues-NYC Hizzoner David Dinkins Passes; Black Lightning Ends (at S4) But Painkiller Begins?; Black Panther 2 Films in '21; Between The World & Me Trailer

And so the Holiday festivities (including Black Friday and Cyber Monday) have officially started this week, AFROnerdists!  We had a brief preemption this past Sunday but we hope you enjoyed our Grindhouse rebroadcast during our brief respite.  Ok...so let's get up, get into it and get involved with the latest Pre-Thanksgiving Day edition of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review airing this Wednesday at 8pm EST.   The topics to be discussed:  before there was a POTUS known as Barack Obama, history was made almost twenty years previously with the election of New York City's first black mayor, the honorable David Dinkins who passed away this week at the age of 93; S4 will reportedly be Black Lightning's last.....yet, the Painkiller character may be getting a spinoff;  latest reports assert that the Black Panther sequel starts filming July '21 and we have our thoughts (perhaps it will work out according to Dburt's previous musings); Netflix concedes to comedian, Dave Chappelle's wishes by cancelling the streaming of his early aughts Chappelle Show;  thoughts about Ta Nehisi Coates' book to fil translation of Between the World and Me:

Dburt rediscovers anime via a fair share of binge watching; a second wave of COVID-19 may mean that the death knell for American theaters;  Danny Phantom trended on Twitter and not for the reason fans would have prefered-perhaps it's time for black cosplayers to hone in more acutely with POC characters and true cultural ownership; lastly, the Bleeding Cool site lends focus on the idea of nostalgia and allegedly not being able to go home again.....enter Hulu's Animaniacs revival.

The MWIR (Mid-Week in Review) Airing WED, 8pm @BTalk100: Why Are POC Heroes Depowered? (Disagree?); John Ridley's Other DC Comix History; Universal-Cinemark Deal; Black Stigmata; Owens v Styles Over His Dress & More

We're just going to do straight topics, no chaser folks! It's Afronerd Radio's Mid-Week in Review (MWIR) show-broadcasting every Wednesday at 8pm eastern on BTalk 100. Listen to your AFROnerdist hosts decipher this week's following topics:  Dburt ponders why (and you can too) black and/or ethnic minority heroes have a tendency to be depowered when compared to their white mainstream counterparts; What does it mean to be depowered, anyway? is it intentional or less insidious?; screenwriter and esteemed graphic novelist, John Ridley makes it around the interview circuit to promote his forthcoming 5-issue series, The Other History of the DC Universe highlighting the oft times overlooked minority heroes of DC; well the theater/movie industries appear to be making that pivot to the home viewing market (at least partially) with the recent Universal-Cinemark deal and we give our impressions; conservative pundit, Candace Owens (GOP compatriot, Ben Shapiro shared "the smoke" as well) is back at it again jousting with (the black version et al) Twitter concerning actor/singer, Harry Styles' gender bending Vogue cover:

the CW in their quest to expand the geek(s) of color palette, have announced a Wonder Girl TV series featuring an actor of Latin descent; Dburt has some thoughts about deconstructing the "black stigmata," internally, externally and legally...oh and he has to explain it first;  so is the WB/DC going to the "pull the trigger" on Wonder Woman 1984 or what? Streaming, theaters or both? Venture Bros. saved?......they're working on it;  And lastly, another Black Lives Matter critique entitled, The Omission..nuff said.

Oh..who knows how much time we will have BUT.....there's apparently still more life, and more to say about the Justice League via the new HBO Max Snyder cut trailer:

The Grindhouse Cometh! Airing SUN, 6pm EST-Topics: Fresh Prince Trailer; Ike White Doc; Fincher on Joker; Future of Conventions; Black Panther 2's CGI Chadwick; Geoff Johns & Gary Frank's Geiger & More!

Time to get it it, folks! It's the Grindhouse broadcast airing every Sunday at 6pm eastern.  And least you forget, our show is powered by Afronerd Radio-streaming via the BTalk 100 platform.  Join your humble and advisory AFROnerdists as they unpack the following issues: well it's finally happening...a trailer for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion hit the cyrberwebs and we have our thoughts; the Shadow and Act site recently highlighted a documentary entitled, The Changin' Times of Ike White which details the extraordinary life of the film's eponymously named musician and how he "started from the bottom" and then disappeared for 40 years

noted filmmaker, David Fincher (Fight Club, The Social Network) has some cautionary/critical thoughts about last years breakout hit, Joker and Dburt ties this in with Anne Hathaway's recent apology to the disabled community for her performance in The Witches; a Mary Sue piece lends focus on what (comic/pop culture) conventions could look like going into 2021 in a post COVID-19 world;  more predictions unfold regarding the logistics of doing a Black Panther sequel without the late Chadwick Boseman;  thoughts about comic writer, DC Comics' Geoff Johns (along with illustrator, Gary Frank) teaming forces once again for a creative owned book entitled, Geiger;

actor, John Boyega has even more to say about his treatment at Disney during his tenure with the Star Wars franchise; Bleeding Cool posits (or is that gossips) about DC Comics bailing out on comic specialty shops and comic conventions;  so it seems like that rumor a Constantine sequel is in the works is actually true;  legendary actor/filmmaker, Sylvester Stallone via his IG account announced that he has secret role in James Gunn's Suicide Squad sequel (and what about Guardians of the Galaxy?); and lastly, if time permits, we may address some topics left on the floor from our last Mid Week show.

How Does Your Ethnicity/Culture Fuel Your Nerdom? It's The Mid Week in Review (MWIR) Airing WED, 8pm! More Topics: Alex Trebek Passes; Trump Won (So He Thinks); Grace Moore; LIVE CALL IN#508-645-0100

For some reason, I recently tripped over classic Hollywood photos of the iconic and multi-talented performer, Eartha Kitt.  And then I wondered how did I miss purchasing paraphernalia of her legendary (albeit campy) portrayal of Catwoman during the 60s Batman TV series all this time?  Trust me, that faux pas will soon be rectified. But it raises the question-does one's ethnicity always fuel their interest in nerd culture?  And should it?  Let's explore this for a bit during this Wednesday's MWIR! Join your noted AFROnerdists as they shed light on even more issues such as: 2020 takes yet another beloved and celebrated personality, Jeopardy game show host, Alex Trebek lost his battle with pancreatic cancer last week at the age of 80;  just when you thought last week's election and subsequent announcement that Joe Biden is the new President-elect was definitive, the ever gracious Donald Trump is refusing to concede; highlighting 12-year-old Grace Moore as one the youngest composers for the famed New York Philharmonic Orchestra:

We never did speak on the Johnny Depp UK defamation case......and since then, it appears that actor, Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to replace Depp's Grindelwald character in the Fantastic Beasts franchise; is it clear that Zack Snyder still has his tentacles on the DCEU/Justice League beyond his HBO Max mini-series?;  Horror king, Jordan Peele's next theatrical release (since US) is slated for 2022;  Dburt prays (and he doesn't believe in the theory but....) to the theater gods that the conventional movie going experience returns not only for the MCU but for an upcoming Angela Bassett, Michelle Yeoh action thriller entitled, Gunpowder Milkshake:

Lastly, is it safe to say that the BBC's forthcoming Bameshow (Black, Asian, Minority, Ethnic) with it's purposeful exclusion of whites is probably going to trigger some folks?  Exhibit A:

A New POTUS & A New Grindhouse Broadcast! Airing This SUN, 6pm: Filmmaker, Hilton Ruiz (Zombie With A Shotgun) Stops By; Biden & Harris; Unexplained Radio Waves? Chapelle on SNL; Kitty's Pryde is Canon & More

Wow...was this a tough year.  And now after this election cycle, perhaps the zeitgeist will pivot toward a different, if not inclusive direction. Welcome to another umpteenth installment from the Afronerd Radio engine, broadcasting through the BTalk 100 platform.  It's Grindhouse Sunday, people! Check us out this afternoon at 6pm eastern with your steadfast AFROnerdist hosts discussing the following issues:  well it's official (mostly) that this nation's president and vice-president elects are indeed, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, respectively. We give you our first impressions and predictions for this landmark presidency and how it might play out for folks of color and beyond; noted filmmaker and friend of the show, Hilton Ruiz stops by to discuss the latest goings in his Zombie with a Shotgun universe; with a controversial election going on, I guess unexplainable interplanetary radio waves don't rate, huh?;  legendary comedian and social commenter, Dave Chappelle made another appearance on SNL-first in '16 at the beginning of the Trump regime and now at its close....interesting;

It is now canonical that the X-Men character, Kitty Pryde has come out as bisexual, oh and least we forget, DC's upcoming future Flash is non-binary-my are these interesting times in comic book publishing. Star Trek: Discovery, too, has introduced a non-binary character;  it seems that actor, Stephen Amell is none too pleased about the rebranding of his vaunted "Arrowverse"  to the CWverse; iconic Star Wars actor, Mark Hamill shared a pretty funny, if not apropos meme highlighting our recent election:

Not only is Netflix raising their prices but they're also tinkering with conventional TV like scheduled programming; and lastly, our thoughts concerning actress, Ann Hathaway's apology to the disabled community for The Witches reboot and then there's Johnny Depp's loss in the UK courts.  Call us LIVE at 508-645-0100.

Sunday's November Grindhouse! @BTalk 100-6pm EST: Sir Sean Connery Passes; Ray Fisher Has More To Say; Mandalorian S2; DC Editors' Bias Claims'; Lil Wayne & Trump; Alitha Martinez' Black Wonder Woman

Ok..we're just going to jump straight to the festivities! It's the first of November and we have a precarious and divisive national election ahead of us next week, so let's delve into our hobbies and entertainment if Armageddon is a comin'.  Listen to the latest installment of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse-airing this Sunday at 6pm eastern. Your (sometimes) comported AFROnerdist broadcasters will be highlighting the following topics:  legendary James Bond actor, Sean Connery passes at 90 with many folks wondering is this also the deathknell of classic Hollywood cool and vigor?; Justice League/Cyborg actor, Ray Fisher gets even more specific regarding his bias claims against director, Joss Whedon; finally, Disney+'s The Mandalorian streaming series started its second season this past weekend and the show didn't disappoint with surprises and/or Easter eggs; we never did speak about DC's upcoming Future State story arc....essentially what would happened to varied DC characters (or their mantles) if fast forwarded many years into the future. As a teaser, we get a rather badass depiction of Nubia, the black Wonder Woman (is this Diana Prince's sister or someone else?) illustrated by Alita Martinez-

And in even more DC news, two former editors from the comic giant are pursuing litigation for racial discrimination claims as a reason for lack of career advancement ; the Root posits that because rapper, Lil' Wayne (and 50 cent) publicly placed his support behind President Trump (more specifically, his platinum plan), it must mean that too many black men are wishing to be White (okaaay....stretching that a bit, huh);  man....every graphic novel is being made into a film or series...i.e Image's The Strange Talent of Luther Strode is being developed as a film by new production company, Allnighter; oh...how did Dburt miss this Netflix soon to be (hopefully) Christmas classic movie, Jingle Jangle that is a not so thinly veiled homage to Steampunk (or is that Steamfunk?)  Oh and did we mention that it stars Forest Whitaker, Anika Noni Rose, Keegan Key and Phylicia Rashad?  Hundalasiliah!
