Disney+ Rocketeer Reboot; Russian Ad w/Black Male Removed; Ep 4 of What If....?; Stallone is Samaritan; Evil S2; FanDome '21; James Bond Trailer; Patton Campaigning For Daughters of the Dragon Series-Mid Week in Review Airs WED 8pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

As is our custom, the Afronerd Radio "steam engine" has a chock full of subject matter to unpack for this week's internet radio entry! Listen to the latest musings from your loyal AFROnerdist hosts for this week's Mid Week in Review-airing every Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  The topics to be bandied about are:  the recent announcement that Disney+  is working on a sequel to the 1991 cult classic superhero/comic book film, The Rocketeer, produced and starring noted actor, David Oyelowo (Selma, A Wrinkle in Time);  anti-black racism being a global phenomenon is nothing new but it still stings nevertheless-a Russian restaurant chain apologized and removed an ad featuring a black man surrounded by a bevy of European models well.....because it offended a far-right group for some reason;

Our impressions of the fourth episode of Disney+'s What If? series and if there are any clues or implications to be seen in a live-action Marvel iteration; we haven't spoken about the recent CinemaCon event (and we will) but word has that legendary actor/director, Sylvester Stallone still "has it" based on his The Samaritan superhero trailer which was shown at the convention to rave reviews;  Dburt weighs in on S2 of Paramount Plus' Evil series starring Mike Colter (Luke Cage); the FanDome Warner Media event returns this year with an all-star lineup;  the long-delayed James Bond trailer for No Time To Die just hit the cyberwebs:

Popular comedic actor and well-renowned geek, Patton Oswalt has recently been campaigning of sorts via social media for Marvel to consider crafting a Daughters of the Dragon series based on their Misty Knight and Colleen Wing characters last seen in the Marvel Netflix universe; And lastly, per time constraints, perhaps we can discuss football great, Cam Newton, and his COVID-19 ouster from the NE Patriots.

Kareem Weighs in on Jeopardy; MLK in Fortnite?; Candyman Reboot Debut; Midnight Suns VG?; Werewolf by Night @Disney+?; One Piece X-ver w/Aquaman?; Black Brothers Kidnapped by The Circus & More: The Grindhouse Airs SUN 8pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

Guten Tag, people! Check out our new installment of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse-airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on the mighty BTalk 100 internet broadcasting platform.  Join your favored AFROnerdist hosts as they use their blerd analytical skills to decipher this week's topical mysteries: legendary basketball player, author and noted Holmesian, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, wrote a recent Hollywood Reporter piece highlighting the importance of choosing the right host for extremely popular and culturally significant game show, Jeopardy!while many people are debating the use of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s image (and his historical "I Have A Dream" speech) for the wildly popular online video game, Fortnite, the Afronerd team, too, will come to their own conclusions;

The oft delayed and highly anticipated Candyman reboot (directed by Nia DaCosta) premiered this weekend and it appears that the film is off to a great post pandemic start with a projected box office gross of $20.7 million; is there more to the new Marvel Midnight Suns VG trailer than meets the eye? Perhaps a precursor to a Midnight Sons live-action project? We will ponder the situation, of course:

I believe we briefly discussed the idea of the proposed race-bended Wonder Years reboot but now that a trailer has dropped many are likening it to Everybody Hates Chris.....hmmm

Marvel is proposing a Werewolf by Night Disney+ series for Halloween 2022 but not based on the Jack Russell version but opting for the Native American, Jake Gomez iteration of the character; the longstanding manga series, One  Piece will purportedly have a crossover with DC's Aquaman;  Lastly, yet another true story that is ripe for a movie/streaming adaptation, Dburt tripped over the fascinating early 20th century circus abduction tale of the Muse brothers. Let us discuss.....

OK Afronerd Radio supporters, let's jump into this.  Welcome to yet another fun, fiery fact-finding mission, courtesy of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review broadcast-airing every Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.   Join your friendly neighborhood AFROnerdist hosts as they elucidate about the following (mid) weekly issues:  whelp, it finally arrived-the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer just hit the internets yesterday and social media and comic book fans alike, had their respective conniptions-we will give our impressions;

A more fully packed or "fleshed out" Eternals trailer also made it to the cyberverse; Another iconic performer leaves the planet...famed Rolling Stones drummer, Charlie Watts passes at 80; our thoughts about the third episode release of Disney+'s What If....? and how it posited what if the Avengers were never created; well, we highlighted DC's storyline exploration of the Tim Drake character's sexuality and in likeminded fashion, they are purportedly looking to go in a similar direction for Jonathan Kent, the scion of Superman; popular (and somewhat polarizing) YouTuber/film critic, Grace Randolph, was trending recently concerning her approval of the forthcoming Shang Chi film but many social media responders were none too pleased about Randolph's "chosen" influence by Marvel/Disney; more details about the anime to live action translation for the Cowboy Bebop Netflix series; Lastly, speaking of Netflix, our thoughts about the recent trailer for documentary, Blood Brothers: Malcolm X & Muhammad Ali:

Ironheart Debut in Wakanda Forever?; Martial Arts Legend, Sonny Chiba Passes; TX Lt. Gov Blames Blacks 4 COVID; Black Vampires!; No James Bond TV!; Black Canary @HBO Max; Disney, Musk & Their Sentient Robots-The Grindhouse Airs SUN 6pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

As the globe continues to fight and persevere beyond the COVID-19 crises, so shall the Afronerd Radio "Steam Engine."  In times  like these, we are oftentimes reminded of the classic Police jam, "When the World is Running Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around."  So in keeping in line with the great Gordon Sumner's lyrics...check out the latest episode of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse show, airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.   Your favorite Nanda Parbat trained AFROnerdist hosts will be shedding light on the following topics: word has it that RiRi Williams aka Ironheart may be ready for her closeup via the forthcoming Black Panther sequel, Wakanda Forever.  If this is the case, will T'Challa's canon (and the black patriarchal themes) get lost with the addition of more female characters?;  and yet another icon leaves the building.....The Street Fighter, himself, martial arts actor, Sonny Chiba succumbs to COVID at 82

Texas Lt. Governor, Dan Patrick had some pretty crass and inaccurate remarks concerning the African-American community and the rise of COVID cases in his state; we never did discuss just how many Black vampires there have been in cinema and why not more? Was the first American vampire of African descent? ; James Bond is not heading to TV or streaming after all;  DC's Black Canary (as portrayed by actress, Jurnee Smollet) is purportedly getting an HBO Max series;  Lastly, we may be entering the era of Skynet folks!  First, Tesla/SpaceX business magnate and entrepreneur, Elon Musk recently unveiled his humanoid robot (Tesla Bit) and then the Walt Disney Co., also announced that it will be exploring sentient "Westworld-like" robots for its theme parks.

Let's jump right into the metaphysical "pool" shall we?  Welcome to the latest episode of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review broadcast-airing every Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Your cosmic-irradiated AFROnerdist hosts will be shedding light on the following (mid) weekly issues: we give our impressions of two rather high profile and very public breakdowns: First, concerning popular singer/entertainer, Melissa Viviane "Lizzo" Jefferson and her expletive-laced rant about fatphobic and racist detractors; And "batting second" is famed tennis star, Naomi Osaka, who became emotional while answering queries at a press conference for the first time in approximately three months; more details are coming out about the forthcoming Marvel film, Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings-early screenings are ranking the movie favorably but allegedly Chinese audiences are not warming up to the Asian-American leads; and then there's the continuing controversy with comedic actress, Nora "Awkwafina" Lum purportedly possessing a "blaccent";  the next DC Animated film will focus on Seline Kyle, entitled  Catwoman: Hunted (will DC/Warner ever make an animated flick that's not Bat-family connected?);  so Captain America 4 will star Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Anthony Mackie after all, huh?;   Giving our thoughts about the latest episode of Disney+'s What If...? this time positioning T'Challa (voiced by the late Chadwick Boseman) as "Star-Lord" in a Guardians of the Galaxy remix;

We never did give you our thoughts about the third season of HBO Max's Titans which is airing in full swing; as suspected, NYU researchers are positing that conversation may stave off dementia (we're saving lives here at the machine, people!); does the return of Marvel's classic Amazing Fantasy comic book series also spell the "return" of racist tropes?  Lastly, New York Comic-Con 2021 is returning but not without vaccine confirmation and mask mandates.

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

Time definitely is not guaranteed, folks!  I'm often reminded of the Prince 1999 lyric-"2000 zero zero party over oops out of time"  during these trying, truncated and communicable diseased times.  Anyway...let's jump to it! Listen to a new installment of Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse broadcast airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on the BTalk 100 internet radio platform.  Your gamma irradiated AFROnerdist hosts will be highlighting the following issues: whelp, we didn't see this coming-it seems that the WB are getting ready to release an animated version of the 1968 George Romero horror classic, Night of the Living Dead.  Take a peak at this trailer:

We will finally give our impressions of the recently released third season of Titans (formerly part of the DC Universe streaming service) now being shown on HBO Max ; another Black male maturing hip hop artist passes prematurely-Bay Area legend Steve "Zumbi" Gaines of Zion I dies at 49:

It appears that T'challa has to save the Avengers from themselves once again but this time it's in virtual/video game form.  More details are getting revealed about the forthcoming War of Wakanda DLC for the Marvel's Avengers VG;  Apparently, Legendary Entertainment will be producing a My Hero Academia anime to live action translation and they have director Shinsuke Sato on board and making his English-language debut;  is Stephen Amell really coming back for another season of the CW's Arrow after it was cancelled 2 seasons ago?;  More information is coming out about Hulu's upcoming graphic novel to streaming series, Y: The Last Man and as expected the '02 comic must be updated to pivot toward today's sensibilities concerning gender and identity;  Lastly, predictions are coming in for the highly anticipated Marvel film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and may fall below expectations.  And then there's Disney CEO, Bob Chapek's use of the term "experiment" to describe Shang's theatrical release strategy (versus the simultaneous streaming option).  We give our thoughts.

During these times I'm reminded of Public Enemy's Welcome to the Terrordome lyrics- "Caught in the race against time; The pit and the pendulum."  Anywho....let's get to it!  Check out the latest episode of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review airing this Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Your ever-vigilant AFROnerdist hosts will be musing about the following (mid) weekly issues: whelp, shocker! Marvel has another anticipated project that has hit the Disney+ streaming service this week. What If...? marks its debut today and we give you our impressions of the first episode; Just when you thought things couldn't get any more bizarre during these trying times....some anti-vaxxers are referencing the 2007 Will Smith zombie apocalypse film, I Am Legend, as a reason not to take the COVID19 vaccine (really?):

The Caped Crusader's third Robin (Tim Drake) may be exploring sexual alternatives according to the new issue of Batman: Urban Legends;  Governor No More!  (Reminds one of Spider-man's canon) New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo resigns from office amid growing claims of sexual misconduct while in office:

CW/HBO Max's Stargirl returns for a second season this week; and, in even more DC news Milestone's Hardware and Batman '89 comic mark their return and debut, respectively; Oh and then there's the Doom Patrol S3 trailer that hit the internets this week;

Screenrant.com waxes about the viability of the Star Trek movie franchise and how filmmaker, Quentin Tarantino's reboot pitch might have been the nitrous oxide needed to rejuvenate the 55-year old series; Lastly, isn't anyone concerned about the largest crypto (600M!!!!) hack to date?

Time to make the donuts!  Welcome to another fact-finding mission also known as Afronerd Radio's Grindhouse-airing every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern on the BTalk 100 internet broadcasting platform. Join your ever consistent AFROnerdist hosts as they unpack their impressions concerning this week's topics:  well, it finally arrived-James Gunn's similarly named reboot, The Suicide Squad (the preceding version simply dubbed Suicide Squad in '16) and it appears to be garnering a fair share of "thumbs up" reviews despite an unimpressive post pandemic box office-we have our thoughts; not only are blerds getting a new Blacula film but there's also a comic in the works; new music has hit the cyberwebs! our fellow Queensman, Nasir "Nas" Jones is back with a new album (can we still use that term?) entitled King's Disease 2 and then there's the HRB (His Royal Badness), Prince, with another LP (again, is this term still in use?) Welcome 2 America;  the late Civil Rights icon, John Lewis is still enlightening folks with his March sequel, Run;

Dburt has been waiting years for this Brian K. Vaughan graphic novel to cinematic translation and it's purportedly debuting sometime in September.  Check out the highly anticipated Y: the Last Man trailer:

Gospel legend, Shirley Caesar is selling her lovely Raleigh, NC manse for 1.5M and that within itself wouldn't be newsworthy except the "crib" does have a pretty swanky Star Wars themed home theater!

Lastly, as fans of anime, one has to ask: "Where is Black anime?"  or "What is Black anime?"  Let's a do a deep dive into Black characterization in the medium and what can be done to highlight and create Black themed/owned anime and animation, in general.

Venom 2 Trailer; Kenyans Doing US College Students' Schoolwork; Namora Casting; A Live-Action What If?; DaBaby Apologizes; Our Kind of People Trailer; Are Star Wars & LOTR On TV The Future?-Mid Week in Review WED 8pm EST

Afronerd Radio can now be heard LIVE courtesy of Apple Music/Itunes

First, we started on Sunday's Grindhouse and now we're here, better known as Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review-airing every Wednesday at 8 p.m. eastern on BTalk 100.  Join your favorite AFROnerdist hosts as they conduct their "Journey into Mystery" colloquium by engaging in the following (mid) weekly topics:  the highly (we believe) anticipated trailer to Sony's Venom sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage just hit the cyberwebs and we have our thoughts: a topic we failed to address on the aforementioned past Grindhouse show must be discussed this go around. Dburt asks how does alleged African intellectual inferiority manifest if American college students are paying Kenyan contractors to do their schoolwork?;  another topic we left on the virtual dining room table deals with alleged confirmation that the Black Panther sequel, Wakanda Forever is filming a memorial scene for the death of the titular character since the late Chadwick Boseman passed from colon cancer last year; and in more Panther news, actress, Mabel Cadena (Ingobernable) might have been tapped to portray the Sub-Mariner's equally aquatic powered cousin, Namora;

Just when Marvel fans thought that it was special enough that they would be getting an animated interpretation of the longstanding 1970s What If? comic series, there's talk that there might be live-action shows/movies at play; popular rapper, DaBaby, after doubling down twice concerning remarks he made that many believed to be hateful toward the LGBTQ community, has apologized and some folks were equally as uncomfortable with that; One of Dburt's favorite books, Our Kind of People, written by the late Lawrence Otis Graham has been adapted for a TV series and here's the trailer:

With more Star Wars (and now Lord Of The Rings at Amazon) IPs heading toward streaming platforms and with big budgets, what does that spell for the future of these properties on the silver screen?; more on screenwriter/graphic novelist, John Ridley's tour de force via his The Other History of the DC Universe series. Now it's Black Lightning's daughter, Thunder, who gets her closeup; Lastly, if time permits, what is the lesson that men should be learning from yet another powerful man (Governor Andrew Cuomo) apparently falling from grace due to sexual misconduct allegations?

Occasionally the Afronerd team must channel the infamous Nike corporate tagline, "Just Do It!"  Welcome to another fiery and funky, fact-finding mission known as The Grindhouse show, broadcasting every Sunday at 6 p.m. eastern, courtesy of the BTalk 100 cyber radio platform.   Join your "blerdic" neighborhood heroic hosts as they wax about the following topics: popular SNL cast member/writer/comedian, Michael Che, found himself in a bit of social media "hot water" after proposing to craft some jokes centering around Olympic gymnast, Simone Biles; the fallout from Marvel/Disney's Black Widow continues with actor, Scarlett Johansson filing suit against the media giant for her films simultaneous release on Disney+ (Premier Access) and therefore closing off potential "back-end" profits and revenue.  Johansson's contemporaries may follow her lead by seeking legal recourse for films that are not exclusively released in theaters;  we never did get around to discussing last week's DC Animated release of  Batman: The Long Halloween Part Two; it looks like writer, Neil Gaiman's universe (American Gods) will continue to expand with the recent announcement that Delroy Lindo (The Good Fight,  Da 5 Bloods) will be portraying "Mr. Nancy" in the forthcoming Anansi Boys project;  addressing some issues left on the kitchen table per Wednesday's Mid Week in Review broadcast;

And now Tinseltown is following the lead of some cities/states that have chosen to remove memorials and/or statues that honor problematic (ahem...racist) individuals.....this time, Birth Of A Nation filmmaker, D.W. Griffith gets his Confederate "spotlight";  hopefully this isn't an example of the Hollywood hype machine at work, BUT Comic Book Resources is reporting that Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson's upcoming Black Adam film will be utilizing groundbreaking technology never before used/seen in the superhero movie genre before;  Dburt asks how does alleged African intellectual inferiority manifest if American college students are paying Kenyan contractors to do their schoolwork?; And lastly, notable comedic actress, Amanda Seales raises eyebrows on her Instagram page for asking why Will Smith is doing a film (King Richard) about Richard Williams as opposed to highlighting his daughters, tennis greats, Venus and Serena Williams.  Again, folks, it is imperative that Black Men's media continues to expand and expound.....
